Grey’s Anatomy, a long-running ABC show, is known for its changing cast – a natural result of being on the air for so many years. To keep the story fresh across multiple seasons, the show has seen actors come and go, all while maintaining its dramatic appeal. As the current season ends, two more established cast members will be leaving, making their departures particularly significant.
According to Variety, Kim Raver and Kevin McKidd will be leaving Grey’s Anatomy in the Season 22 finale, airing May 7th. They play Teddy and Owen, characters who first met as Army majors in Baghdad during the Iraq War. Their relationship has faced many challenges throughout the series, but they finally married in Season 18. Both actors have been with the show for a long time, making their exit a sad loss for fans.
I was so bummed when April and Jackson left Grey’s Anatomy! I remember when Scott McKidd first showed up in Season 5, and then Sarah Raver joined the next season, starting as a recurring character before becoming a full-time cast member. It was a shock when Sarah left after Season 8, but I was thrilled to see her guest star in Season 14 and then really come back in Season 15. This time, the show said it was a creative choice to write them off, and they’ve hinted that April and Jackson might come back someday, which gives me hope!

Sonda Rhimes, the show’s creator, shared that she was happy to give Teddy and Owen a satisfying conclusion to their storyline, even though it was hard to say goodbye. Both McKidd and Raver expressed how much the show meant to them; McKidd called it a significant part of his career and expressed deep gratitude for playing Owen, while Raver said she’ll always cherish the role of Teddy. After sixteen years with the show, both actors reflected on the impact it had on their lives and fans are now curious about their future projects.
Shonda Rhimes shared a heartfelt statement praising Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver, who play Owen and Teddy on Grey’s Anatomy. She highlighted their exceptional talent and the meaningful impact they’ve had on the show, both as performers and behind the scenes, expressing her gratitude for the chance to work with them. Though their characters’ journeys on the show have concluded, Grey’s Anatomy will continue, having already been renewed for a 23rd season set to air in Fall 2026.
