For over a decade, we’ve been without the presence of Robin Williams, a cherished actor and comedian, in our world. Tragically, he took his own life at the age of 63, leaving behind a legacy that was later found to be marked by Lewy body dementia. Since then, Williams has been lovingly remembered by his close ones, including family members and millions of fans who appreciated his work. His children are among those who keep his memory alive, as evidenced by an emotional tribute written by one of them on his birthday this year.
July 21 is the anniversary that would have been Robin Williams’ 74th birthday, and on social media, numerous fans and entertainment-focused accounts are paying tribute to this day. Among those expressing their thoughts was Zachary Williams, Robin’s son from his marriage to Valerie Velardi. On a particular day (X), Zak posted a picture of his dad from the 1987 film “Good Morning, Vietnam.” This photo came with an emotional message not just about how much he misses his father but also acknowledging that many others are dealing with their own grief.
Today marks what would have been my father’s 74th birthday. This period is heavy with significance as Father’s Day, his birthday, and the anniversary of his passing are all within a span of 60 days. For me, grief doesn’t follow a straightforward course; it recurs, transforms, and suddenly surfaces when I least anticipate it. Yet, amidst this sorrow, there exists a legacy woven with generosity and kindness. He made people feel recognized. He granted permission to feel deeply and laugh through hardships. This mission endures. To those who are grieving today: you’re not alone. Happy birthday, Dad. I will always love you.
The passing of a cherished family member, such as a parent or a very close relative, is seldom an easy experience. Consequently, the sorrow that follows can touch multiple aspects of one’s life. Remarkably, it’s heartening to observe Zak Williams (41), whose siblings are Zelda (35) and Cody (32), dedicate time not only to dealing with his personal distress but also extending a helping hand to those who may find themselves in similar circumstances.

It recently came to light that Ben Stiller and Robin Williams assisted the actor who portrayed Superman’s Jimmy Olsen in securing his prom date. In my opinion, they are truly heroic for making this wonderful event happen!
Robin Williams’ immense talent and unique flair continue to be deeply missed. Known for his exceptional ability to switch between comedy and drama, Williams brought life to his memorable films with his exceptional timing and knack for making even the most eccentric characters feel real. Some of his finest works include “The Fisher King,” “Dead Poets Society,” “Good Will Hunting,” and “Awakenings.” In recognition of his outstanding performance, Williams posthumously received the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Good Will Hunting.
Quite a number of Robin Williams’ former co-stars have reminisced fondly about working with him. For example, Sally Field from Mrs. Doubtfire spoke about his kindness when he found out that her father had passed while filming. Similarly, Nathan Lane, who collaborated with him on The Birdcage, shared heartfelt thoughts about the special bond they shared on screen, describing Williams as a kindred spirit. Furthermore, Whoopi Goldberg, one of Williams’ long-term friends, has publicly spoken about their friendship.
It’s more than just an understatement to express that we deeply miss the actor who starred in Aladdin. In truth, I’m one of many who wish he was still by our side. Yet, it brings us joy to see Zak Williams honoring his father with such heartwarming gestures. Here’s to celebrating what would have been his 74th birthday, and may his memory continue to bring comfort to his children.
