Gundam Shares New Visual and Confirms 2025 Release Date For Upcoming Movie

Bandai Namco recently shared details about the upcoming film, “Mobile Suit Gundam Hathaway: The Sorcery of Nymph Circe,” which is part of a three-part series inspired by the “Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash” novels. During their Gundam Showcase event, they unveiled a fresh visual teaser for the sequel. The film is scheduled to debut in Japanese cinemas this year, with plans to screen it in North American theaters later on. Although no exact release date has been announced for “The Sorcery of Nymph Circe,” Bandai intends to launch it in Q4 of 2025.

Bandai announced that the sequel will be screening in North American movie theaters this winter season. During the panel, Kensho Ono – who portrays Hathaway Noa – made an appearance to address the fans. The majority of the cast and crew are reprising their roles for the upcoming film, with Shukou Murase returning as director. The Hathaway Flash novels were penned by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the mastermind behind Gundam, and were published from 1989 to 1990. The novel serves as a continuation of the Char’s Counterattack movie, which concluded the long-running narrative between the franchise’s primary characters.

What Is Gundam Hathaway Flash About?

The stories explore the exploits of Hathaway Noa, a character who was first introduced as a child in “Char’s Counterattack” and continues to grapple with PTSD from that film. Despite having a famous father who was a highly respected Earth Federation Commander (Bright Noa), Hathaway heads a terrorist organization known as Mafty, which he uses as a cover. He and his associates believe the Earth Federation has become corrupt and intend to eliminate certain influential individuals within the privileged class. The original novels tackle difficult moral dilemmas, as while the Earth Federation is indeed corrupt, Mafty’s actions inadvertently harm innocent bystanders.

The most memorable scene from the initial film version showcases a gritty perspective of a battle between mobile suits, making the actions seem intense and authentic. This segment underscores how Hathaway’s ruthless strategy against the Earth Federation resulted in tragic human losses. The Hathaway Flash series carries on Yoshiyuki Tomino’s pessimistic outlook towards humanity and governments, a recurring motif in his creations. Originally planned for release in summer 2020, the debut film was pushed back to 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Netflix acquired streaming rights for the first movie and made it available on their platform from July 1, 2021, in specific regions.

GUNDAM Showcase: A Panel of 30 Years – Celebrating Gundam Wing

This panel was filled with exciting guests and freebies for the audience! The main focus was on the legendary Gundam Wing anime, which played a significant role in making Gundam popular in the Western world. Some of the special guests included voice actors Mark Hildreth, Scott McNeil, and Brad Swaile. Notably, Hildreth voiced the main character Heero, giving him a stern demeanor to match his robotic personality. McNeil, who brought Duo’s cocky attitude to life in Wing, is an Australian actor residing in Canada, well-known for his roles in various shows like Transformers, Beast Wars, ReBoot, and X-Men Evolution. Swaile, who lent his voice to the sensitive Quatre in Wing, is one of the most active voice actors in the Gundam franchise. He has voiced main characters like Amuro Ray and Setsuna F. Seiei from Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam 00, respectively.

The attendees were rewarded with an exclusive t-shirt, trading cards for the Gundam Trading Card Game (TCG), a shopping bag, a comic book, a music card, and an introductory guidebook.
