Halle Berry, known for her role as Storm in the X-Men movies, recently shared more information about how she confronted a director regarding their problematic behavior during filming.
Bryan Singer is a director known for controversy, facing accusations of misconduct and sexual assault throughout his career. He directed three X-Men movies – X-Men, X2, and X-Men: Days of Future Past – alongside Halle Berry, but their collaboration was reportedly difficult.
Halle Berry told Entertainment Weekly that during filming of X-Men, director Bryan Singer’s inappropriate behavior became unbearable. She finally confronted him, telling him exactly what she thought and refusing to stay silent any longer.
I had a memorable experience directing Bryan Singer on the set of X-Men one day.
The Academy Award winner wasn’t alone in being frustrated with Singer’s mistreatment of everyone on set – both the cast and crew. Several people encouraged Halle Berry to speak up, knowing she wouldn’t hesitate to confront him.
She said it was “one of the best days” she’d ever had while filming, and that Singer rightfully faced criticism. After that, Berry went home, taking her X-Men costume with her.
Let me tell you, it felt incredible. Everyone on set was furious, but they all turned to me and said, ‘Halle, you say something!’ They knew I wouldn’t hold back. And honestly, it was one of the most satisfying days of my career. To finally confront someone who was mistreating the entire cast and crew, and really let them know what we thought… it was powerful. I even flew home still wearing my X-Men suit, and you know what? That person absolutely deserved it.
This isn’t the first instance of an X-Men actor discussing Singer’s alleged misconduct. Alan Cumming, who played Nightcrawler, previously shared that Halle Berry confronted Singer, telling him, “I’ve heard enough. You can kiss my Black a.”
The singer has refuted claims of sexual misconduct and denied accusations regarding his behavior while filming.
Bryan Singer directed the initial two X-Men movies before moving to DC to direct Superman Returns. Following that, several other directors contributed to the X-Men series, including Brett Ratner, Gavin Hood, James Mangold, and Matthew Vaughn, who directed films such as X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and X-Men: First Class.
Singer returned for Days of Future Past and Apocalypse in 2014 and 2016, respectively.
After directing Apocalypse, Bryan Singer went on to helm Bohemian Rhapsody and serve as an executive producer for the TV series Legion and The Gifted. However, he was removed from the Bohemian Rhapsody project due to growing concerns about his conduct on set.
The filmmaker hasn’t been involved in any film or television projects recently. However, it was reported last summer that he’s agreed to direct a historical drama that’s currently in development.
Following her time as a superhero, Halle Berry appeared in films like Kingsman: The Golden Circle and John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, as well as the television series Extant. She’s widely recognized for her roles in Monster’s Ball, Catwoman, and the James Bond film Die Another Day. Berry won an Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Monster’s Ball.
I just saw Crime 101, the new movie starring the incredibly talented X-Men actor, and it’s a solid watch. Plus, it’s got Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo in it – a great cast all around! As of today, it’s sitting pretty with an 87% score on Rotten Tomatoes, so critics seem to be enjoying it too.
