It’s been a few months since Microsoft first showed off the remake of the original Halo, now called Halo: Combat Evolved. Fans haven’t heard much news since, but according to Tom Warren at The Verge, the team at Halo Studios is aiming to release the game this summer.
Okay, so it sounds like we might see the remake launch sometime between late June and late September, which is actually pretty soon! I’m really excited because that gives Microsoft time to show us more, especially those three new prequel missions with Master Chief and Sgt. Johnson. Apparently, they’re adding new environments and gameplay mechanics, which sounds awesome. I’ve heard rumors of another Developer_Direct coming up, and I wouldn’t be shocked if we got a look at Campaign Evolved there, though I’m guessing the Xbox Games Showcase in June is the more likely place to see it.
The classic game Halo: Combat Evolved is being released on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. This is the first time a Halo game will be available on PlayStation, with future installments planned to launch simultaneously on all platforms. The new version features a major visual upgrade using Unreal Engine 5, redesigned levels, enhanced cutscenes, and even includes weapons that weren’t originally available until later in the Halo trilogy, such as the Energy Blade.
The game won’t have head-to-head competition, but you can play through the story with up to four friends, and cross-play will be available. You can find a full comparison of the remake and the original game here.
