Let’s face it, Halo is the defining first-person shooter for consoles. While games like DOOM on PlayStation and GoldenEye 007 showed potential, Halo: Combat Evolved perfected the formula and truly made the genre work well with a controller.
PS5 gamers clearly enjoy third-person shooter games, and the upcoming remake of Halo: Combat Evolved delivers with a feature that lets you play the whole campaign from a third-person perspective, following Master Chief directly.
This is one of 42 collectible Skulls you can unlock. Each Skull changes how the game is played, adding things like special effects or modifiers. For example, you can turn off the on-screen display, make enemies tougher, or even trigger confetti with every headshot!
Since the game doesn’t have traditional versus multiplayer โ it does offer both local and online co-op with crossplay โ these customization options are really important for keeping players engaged and coming back for more.
Although I don’t think playing Halo in third-person feels quite right, I’m glad the option is there. I might even try playing through the campaign that way after I’ve finished it a few times normally.
If you want to see more of the game from a player’s perspective, you can watch nearly 30 minutes of gameplay from the ‘Assault on the Control Room’ level in the video above.
This game doesn’t offer many surprises for Halo veterans โ it’s pretty much what you’d expect. However, the developers have done a great job with the fast-paced combat sections, and the game looks fantastic.
