Harry Potter legend stars in ominous first look at “thrilling and compulsive” new Channel 4 drama Summerwater

Dougary Scott and Shirley Henderson – known for playing Moaning Myrtle in the Harry Potter films – appear in the first trailer for the new Channel 4 drama, Summerwater, which looks quite unsettling.

This atmospheric new six-part drama, based on the popular novel by Sarah Moss, premieres tonight on Channel 4 (Sunday, November 2nd, 2025).

John Donnelly, known for his work with Utopia, wrote the adaptation of Summerwater. Robert McKillop and Fiona Walton, who have experience directing TV crime dramas, directed it.

The preview hints at a story that doesn’t unfold in a straight line. A disaster at a Scottish holiday park raises questions about the hidden and intense lives of the people who live there.

Channel 4 describes Summerwater as a drama unfolding at a secluded Scottish holiday park by a loch. It focuses on the growing friction between vacationers that ultimately leads to a shocking and destructive event.

The story follows several families staying in cabins, revealing their hidden struggles and personal challenges alongside glimpses of joy. Through flashbacks, we learn about pivotal moments in their pasts and how those events are impacting their present-day holiday.

Channel 4 itself boasts that the show is “thrilling and compulsive” and “character-led”.

Could this be a classic whodunnit? Or something all the more disturbing?

The drama stars alongside Scott and Henderson, and also features Valene Kane, known from Blue Lights, Anna Próchniak from Showtrial, Gabriel Scott of House of the Dragon, Anders Hayward from Vigil, and Arnas Fedaravičiu, who appears in the third season of The White Lotus.

We’ll have to see who is playing a guilty party when the drama finally arrives on our screens…

Summerwater airs on Channel 4 in November.
