The popular franchise, which began in 2001, is still going strong after more than twenty years. As the 25th anniversary approaches, and with a new television series in the works, fans have something new to look forward to.
Next month, HBO Max will launch a Harry Potter podcast. Warner Bros. announced that Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast will become available on May 19th. Currently, very few details about the podcast have been released, and Warner Bros. hasn’t shared specifics about its content.
What to Expect From The Harry Potter Official Film Podcast?
The new podcast, called “Season 1,” will re-examine the Harry Potter series, starting from the beginning and continuing through the final movie, The Deathly Hallows Part 2, released in 2011.
Harry Potter is a massively popular franchise that extends far beyond the original seven books and eight movies. It now includes video games, theme park attractions, and the Fantastic Beasts film series.
Podcasts have exploded in popularity recently, and many actors are now using them to share stories and behind-the-scenes insights about their shows and movies. Streaming services are getting in on the action too – Hulu is launching podcasts for shows like Prison Break (which is getting a new season) and This Is Us, while HBO offers companion podcasts for hits like The Last of Us and Game of Thrones.
Warner Bros. hasn’t announced who will host the new Harry Potter podcast, how many episodes to expect, or if any of the original actors will be involved. Their last podcast project featured Oliver and James Phelps (Fred and George Weasley) as hosts, and ran for two seasons, but there’s been no news about whether it will return for a third.
Harry Potter Returns to the Small Screen
Following a surprise documentary released earlier this month, excitement for the new Harry Potter series is slowly growing. Despite some past issues, it’s still unclear whether the show will be a hit.
Just fifteen years after the movies finished, Warner Bros. is creating a Harry Potter TV series planned to run for seven seasons over the next ten years. A new group of actors will play the main characters, with Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout, and Arabella Stanton starring as Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
The series features John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid. It will premiere on HBO Max on Christmas Day.
Harry Potter: The Official Film Podcast Season 1 premieres May 19 on HBO Max.
