The first trailer is out for ‘Murder Before Evensong,’ a six-episode mystery series inspired by Reverend Richard Coles’ novel of the same title.
This fall on Channel 5, a new series introduces us to Canon Daniel Clement, played by Matthew Lewis-best known as Neville Longbottom from the Harry Potter films. Daniel is a local priest in the quiet English village of Champton, but his peaceful life is disrupted when a body is discovered in his church, leading to a murder investigation.
The trailer also features other actors in the series, such as Amanda Redman playing Daniel’s mother, Audrey, Amit Shah as DS Neil Vanloo, Adam James as Bernard De Floures, and Tamzin Outhwaite as Stella Harper.

The show also stars Meghan Treadway, Alexander Delamain, Marion Bailey, Amanda Hadingue, Francis Magee, and Nina Toussaint-White.
Daniel lives with his mother, Audrey, and their two dachshunds, Cosmo and Hilda, at the Champton rectory. His proposal to update the church causes friction within the community, and things get even more complicated when a body is discovered behind the church.
When violence erupts and people begin to die, Daniel is the only hope for his broken community – and the only one who can stop the killer.
I’ve really gotten into the Canon Clement mysteries! After loving ‘Beyond Murder Before Evensong,’ I’ve read all of Coles’ follow-ups: ‘A Death in the Parish’ came out in 2023, and then in 2024 we got both ‘Murder at the Monastery’ and ‘Murder Under the Mistletoe.’ Just this year, 2025, she released ‘A Death on Location,’ so I’m all caught up… for now!
Matthew Lewis is most famous for his role as Neville Longbottom in the Harry Potter movies. More recently, he’s appeared in the drama series All Creatures Great and Small and the BBC sitcom Avoidance with Romesh Ranganathan.
