Matthew Lewis, known for his roles in shows like Murder Before Evensong and All Creatures Great and Small, is taking on a new challenge. He’ll be the star of ‘The Fortune,’ a suspenseful thriller centered around a complicated inheritance, a mysterious past, and long-hidden secrets.
In the show, Matthew Lewis plays Jimmy, a café chef who’s happily married to Amanda (Eleanor Tomlinson) and they have a son together. Their life seems perfect until Amanda receives a surprising visit from a lawyer, who tells her she’s about to inherit a large estate from a wealthy businessman.
Amanda’s only concern is that she doesn’t recognize the man offering her money, and she’s puzzled why he would do so considering he has a family.
Amanda is struggling to process this unexpected information, and she’s hesitant to share it with Jimmy. Even Lewis, after reading the script, couldn’t quite figure out why she was keeping it from him.

In a recent interview with TopMob, the actor admitted his initial reaction to the script was confusion. He said his first thought was, ‘I don’t understand this,’ but he believes it speaks to the strength of his relationship with his wife. He simply couldn’t make sense of it at first.
I spoke with the director, Andy de Emmony, and needed to understand something crucial for the script: her character absolutely cannot tell him. From there, it became our job – the director’s and the actors’ – to work out why she wouldn’t. We had to figure out what motivates that decision within her character.
Honestly, finding that particular plot point was a real challenge. But what I think really made it work was how deeply Eleanor and I explored the characters’ interactions. We spent ages debating their choices, especially with Jimmy. It struck me that if he’d just been honest with Amanda, a lot of the problems could have been avoided, but he consistently chooses not to, and that’s what drives the story forward.
It’s really about getting to the bottom of what happened. People often make mistakes, especially when they’re in relationships, and we were just trying to understand the real story. I think we ultimately reached a good understanding.
Amanda’s behavior throughout the series isn’t always conventional or popular, but she consistently works hard to uncover the truth about the enigmatic man at the center of the story.
Amanda Blakefield enjoys a fulfilling life with her husband, Jimmy, and their son, Luke. However, everything changes when she unexpectedly inherits a large fortune from a complete stranger, and her world begins to unravel.
Amanda finds herself caught up in the complicated lives of the Worrall family, who are haunted by secrets from the past. As she learns more about what happened before, everyone’s lives begin to unravel.
