Harry Potter TV Series Will Be ‘Biggest Event In The History of Streaming’ Says Warner Bros. CEO

Warner Bros. Discovery is working hard to become a major player in the competitive world of streaming. Following the company’s formation through the merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery, new leaders have shifted the strategy. Instead of trying to build streaming platforms around every possible franchise, Warner Bros. Discovery is now concentrating on creating high-quality content, beginning with established, popular brands like HBO and its streaming service, HBO Max.

Warner Bros. Discovery is making a major move by reimagining Harry Potter as a new TV series on HBO. The original Harry Potter books and movies were incredibly popular with an entire generation, earning $7.7 billion in ticket sales and billions more from related products. Now, the company hopes a longer-format TV show will capture the public’s imagination even more successfully than the films, with one executive boldly predicting it will be the largest event in streaming history.

At a recent HBO event in the UK, J.B. Perrette, head of Global Streaming and Games at Warner Bros. Discovery, announced when viewers can expect the new Harry Potter TV series. He highlighted the significant investment and effort going into the reboot, predicting it will be a landmark moment in entertainment.

According to Perrette, producer David Heyman emphasizes just how massive and detailed the production is, and how carefully everything is being created. He believes it elevates theatrical experiences to an entirely new level.

Will Harry Potter Be The “Biggest Streaming Event” Ever?

Perette explained that a Harry Potter TV series will be much better than the films because it will allow for a more detailed and complete telling of the story. While Casey Bloys, the head of HBO, doesn’t necessarily agree, Perette believes the series will be the biggest streaming event of the decade. He emphasized its potential even further, predicting it will be the most significant streaming event in HBO Max’s history, and possibly in streaming overall, dominating viewership in multiple ways.

The upcoming HBO series based on Harry Potter will star Dominic McLaughlin as Harry, Alastair Stout as Ron, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione. John Lithgow will play Albus Dumbledore, with Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid rounding out the main cast.

Season 1 will also feature Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Johnny Flynn as Lucius Malfoy, Bel Powley as Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as Vernon Dursley, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, and Tristan and Gabriel Harland sharing the roles of Fred and George Weasley, among others. The series’ music will be composed by Hans Zimmer, known for his work on The Dark Knight trilogy.

The new Harry Potter series is coming to HBO and HBO Max around 2027. Join the conversation with other fans on the ComicBook Forum!
