Hazbin Hotel Star Breaks Down New Broadway Special As It Hits Prime: “Kind of Magical” [Exclusive]

The story of Hazbin Hotel – how it went from a personal project by Vivienne Medrano to a popular show on Prime Video – is as wild and unexpected as the characters themselves. But nothing shows how much of a cultural phenomenon Hazbin Hotel has become more than its recent live performance on Broadway. Hazbin Hotel: Live on Broadway, a one-night-only event held on October 20, 2025, at the famous Majestic Theatre (previously home to Phantom of the Opera for 35 years), perfectly captured the show’s vibrant spirit. The event celebrated the premiere of Season Two and featured the main cast – including Erika Henningson (Charlie Morningstar), Jeremy Jordan (Lucifer Morningstar), Christian Borle (Vox), Jessica Vosk (Lute), Blake Roman (Angel Dust), Amir Talai (Alastor), and Krystina Alabado (Cherri Bomb) – performing songs from the series. Vivienne Medrano and composer Sam Haft also made appearances.

For Amir Talai, who voices the character Alastor in Hazbin Hotel, performing on Broadway was a dream come true and a major achievement in his career. Although many of his fellow cast members are seasoned stage performers with prestigious awards, the one-time show at the Majestic Theatre was Talai’s first official Broadway appearance. In a recent interview, he described the powerful emotions, the pressure, and the joy of that special night, and shared what made it so memorable.

Performing on Broadway for the First Time Was a Surreal Experience for Amir Talai

Most Broadway debuts follow months of dedicated rehearsals, something very few performers ever get to experience. But for this special, one-time event, rehearsals were much shorter and incredibly fast-paced. This, combined with the excitement and pressure of performing in such a historic theater, created a rush of adrenaline and emotion for Talai.

Talai described making her Broadway debut as an unbelievable experience – a whirlwind of activity and a bit chaotic. In our exclusive interview, she explained that the quick turnaround and immense pressure created a thrilling, yet risky, situation. While most Broadway debuts involve six to eight weeks of rehearsal to get to know the cast, Talai’s came together very quickly and felt wonderfully unpredictable.

Even though the day was incredibly stressful, Talai intentionally focused on truly experiencing it, rather than just rushing through the performance and technical details. He understood how important this moment was and allowed himself to fully appreciate reaching such a significant point in his career.

He said he really cherished the chance to slow down and appreciate the moment that day. He admitted to crying several times – maybe eight or nine – and wasn’t exaggerating when he said he was completely blown away by Erika Henningsen’s performance. He described her as incredibly energetic and a true star.

Talai’s genuine emotion perfectly captured the significance of the moment and the incredible impact Hazbin Hotel has made. For an actor, appearing on a Broadway stage – especially at The Majestic theater – represents a dream come true. His tears weren’t from stress, but from overwhelming gratitude, amazement, and the disbelief that his character, Alastor, had resonated so deeply with the audience, ultimately leading him to the center of the New York theater scene.

The Incredible Bond Between the Cast and the Audience’s Energy Only Added to the Memorable Night

Talai was able to navigate the stressful and hectic preparation for the performance because of his close relationships with his fellow cast members. Unlike most Broadway shows where actors bond during rehearsals, the cast of Hazbin Hotel had already worked together for two years, developing their characters individually through recordings. This pre-existing friendship and the ability to play off each other’s energy provided Talai with comfort and support on stage.

Talai shared that working alongside people she’d known for over a year was a special experience. Performing with people she truly cared about meant a lot to her. This existing connection felt like a supportive family, turning what could have been a stressful event into a joyful reunion on a global platform.

Talai felt a strong connection with his fellow performers, and their respect for him made it even better. Many of them were experienced Broadway actors, and they understood how special this opportunity was for him as a newcomer. As Talai explained, they recognized and appreciated that this was his first time on Broadway, which made the experience particularly meaningful.

Talai’s first Broadway show was a special experience he shared with Richard Horvitz, another well-known voice actor. Talai noted that, like himself, Horvitz had never performed on Broadway before, and being able to go through that together – especially as the voice of Moxxie from Helluva Boss, a show connected to Hazbin Hotel – created a unique and meaningful connection between them.

The most memorable part of the evening, though, was the audience’s reaction. Seeing and hearing Alastor – a character famous for his old-time radio voice and dramatic personality – perform live allowed fans to truly connect with him. Talai, the performer, described the initial response as “magical.” That immediate connection with the audience, combined with the energy and support from fellow performers, made the night more than just a successful show; it created a lasting, shared experience for everyone involved.
