HBO Max Is About To Lose Jason Statham’s Underrated Action Movie Sequel

Jason Statham is one of the biggest action stars around. He’s known for his intense and realistic performances in films like The Expendables, The Beekeeper, and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. If you’re a fan of his action movies, don’t wait – a great, but often overlooked, Statham film is leaving HBO Max soon.

As a big action movie fan, I really enjoyed Jason Statham as Arthur Bishop in The Mechanic back in 2011, and I was glad to see him reprise the role in 2016’s Mechanic: Resurrection. I noticed it was added to HBO Max last February, but unfortunately, it’s leaving the platform on February 28th. The story picks up about five years after the first film, and it’s a classic setup: Bishop, who’s trying to enjoy retirement, gets pulled back in when a dangerous enemy kidnaps the woman he loves. It’s got a great cast too, including Tommy Lee Jones, Jessica Alba, and Michelle Yeoh!

Mechanic: Resurrection Is So Bad It’s Good

Look, let’s be real, Mechanic: Resurrection isn’t going to win any awards, and it’s definitely not Jason Statham at his peak. But you know what? I had a good time with it. It’s a total popcorn flick – the kind where you turn off your brain and just enjoy the ride. Critics weren’t blown away, and audiences were lukewarm, but if you’re a Statham fan who likes seeing him kick butt in exotic locations, this delivers. The plot is a little thin and some of the effects aren’t great, but honestly, I wasn’t expecting a masterpiece. It’s a fun, guilty pleasure and I’m glad it got made.

Despite ultimately failing to launch a successful franchise, Mechanic: Resurrection immediately throws you into the action with a thrilling opening scene in Rio. The movie never slows down, built entirely around showcasing Jason Statham’s action skills. It’s a fast-paced, globe-trotting adventure filled with unbelievable and inventive kills as Statham’s character, Arthur Bishop, takes out targets in spectacular ways. The over-the-top action is so engaging that you won’t mind the thin plot, and Statham is, as always, charming and perfectly suited to this fun, uncomplicated, and purely entertaining thriller. If you’re looking for a straightforward action movie with plenty of thrills, Mechanic: Resurrection delivers exactly that.

Where to Stream Mechanic: Resurrection After It Leaves HBO Max?

As a big action movie fan, and especially a Jason Statham one, I just wanted to give everyone a heads-up: Mechanic: Resurrection is leaving HBO Max at the end of February. If you want to watch it through a streaming service, now’s the time! We don’t know yet if it’ll show up on another platform in March, but if it doesn’t, you’ll still be able to rent or buy it online. Just thought I’d share in case you were planning a re-watch!
