2026 Looks Like a Good Year for HBO Max

HBO has revealed a fantastic initial lineup and promises more reveals throughout the day, potentially including additional trailers. The first look at Lanterns is especially thrilling, following closely after yesterday’s Supergirl trailer. Interestingly, these initial clips don’t show any Green Lantern powers being used, which have historically been challenging to depict convincingly in live-action. Fans are eager to see if Lanterns can deliver a powerful portrayal comparable to Guy Gardener in Superman. Despite HBO Max being known for its high-budget shows, the entire streaming landscape is currently facing pressure to cut costs.

In 2026, both the DC Universe and the world of Game of Thrones are getting bigger. A new Game of Thrones spin-off, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, will adapt George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg and take place 90 years before the events of the original series. It’s expected to feel quite different from House of the Dragon, which will also be back for a third season. Plus, fans of The Big Bang Theory will get a new show called Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.

Warner Bros. is likely very pleased with this exciting content, particularly as the studio and its streaming service are currently facing a period of change. Netflix is hoping to acquire Warner Bros., including HBO Max, but Paramount has also made a competing offer. This new HBO Max trailer effectively highlights the value of the streaming service, the popularity of its shows, and the high quality of its content, making it a well-timed showcase.
