HBO Max is always adding new movies and shows, which means some titles have to leave to make space. While October brought additions like *Beetlejuice*, *Edward Scissorhands*, and *Gremlins*, one lesser-known fantasy film from the 2010s will soon be removed. The action fantasy film *Warcraft*, directed by Duncan Jones and based on the popular Blizzard Entertainment video game, will be removed from HBO Max on October 31st. If you’re an HBO Max subscriber, you only have a few days left to watch it! While critics weren’t impressed, many viewers actually enjoy the movie. It tells the story of how orc shaman Gul’dan uses dark magic to create a gateway to the human world of Azeroth, leading to a clash between the two races. The film stars Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Robert Kazinsky, and Daniel Wu.
Why You Should Watch Warcraft Before It Leaves HBO Max
Despite making $439 million worldwide and briefly becoming the highest-grossing video game movie ever, *Warcraft* received largely negative reviews. Critics found it bloated, slow-moving, and lacking in quality. One particularly harsh review in *Vanity Fair* stated the film offered nothing for anyone – not even fans of the *Warcraft* game – and wasn’t worth recommending.
Okay, so *Warcraft* definitely had a rough start with critics, but honestly, don’t let that scare you away. Despite its flaws, I actually enjoyed it quite a bit! The visual effects are stunning – seriously, the orcs look incredibly real – and the filmmakers did a fantastic job of bringing the world of the games to life on the big screen. It *feels* real, and it’s easy to get lost in. The story moves at a good pace, there’s plenty of action, and the battle scenes are truly spectacular. It’s a gorgeous, immersive experience for fans and newcomers alike.
Over time, *Warcraft* has become increasingly popular and generally received positive reviews. Currently, it holds a 76% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
New Movies on HBO Max
HBO Max has removed some movies and TV shows this month, but it’s also added a bunch of new ones! Before Warcraft disappears, be sure to catch it. And don’t forget to add recent additions like 50 First Dates, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Beetlejuice, Gone Girl, Hereditary, and Practical Magic to your list of things to watch.
