HBO Max is home to many popular shows like A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Hacks, The Last of Us, and Industry. However, one show stands out as the most popular, and it’s currently enjoying a successful new season while also featuring a much-loved actor making a triumphant return.
Geoffrey Owens, known for his role on The Cosby Show, is joining the hit HBO Max series The Pitt as a guest star in its second season, according to Variety. He’ll play Dr. Clay Barrett, a cardio-thoracic surgeon, in episode 13, which is scheduled to air on April 2nd. It’s great to see Owens in one of the most popular shows of 2026, and his appearance is connected to a larger storyline.
Geoffrey Owens’ Comeback Story, Explained

Geoffrey Owens is best known for his role as Elvin on The Cosby Show, appearing in 128 episodes. Elvin was married to Sondra, the Huxtables’ eldest daughter, and, with their two children, became part of the family’s storylines. While initially creating some tension with Cliff and Claire due to his old-fashioned and sometimes disrespectful views, Elvin developed over time into a much-loved member of the Huxtable family.
Following the conclusion of The Cosby Show, Owens appeared in smaller roles on several TV series, including Law & Order, That’s So Raven, Boston Legal, Las Vegas, Without a Trace, The Leftovers, and Blue Bloods. In 2018, photos circulated online of him working at Trader Joe’s, and his gracious reaction won over both his fellow actors and fans worldwide.
Owens explained that he quit his job at Trader Joe’s after customers started filming him – he didn’t want the unwanted attention. He clarified in a 2024 interview that his departure wasn’t related to any future work opportunities he pursued.
During an interview with V-103, Owens explained that she resigned from her job after someone was seen taking pictures inside the store. She felt uncomfortable continuing to work there, worried about who might be watching and photographing her. As a private person, she didn’t want to deal with the potential attention and scrutiny. She emphasized that her decision wasn’t based on any expectation of future financial gain, but rather on a need to protect her privacy.
After his video went viral, comedian Young Owens gained support from Tyler Perry and Nicki Minaj. Between 2020 and 2024, he appeared in several shows including Power, Poppa’s House, Nonnas, and A Merry Little Ex-Mas. Despite his growing career, Owens has said he still enjoys working at Trader Joe’s and has even asked for extra hours, describing it as a “wonderful place to work.”
Owens is now part of a very popular show, marking a fantastic return to the industry. While he may still occasionally work at Trader Joe’s, this represents a major achievement in his comeback, and hopefully, he’ll continue to succeed for a long time.
