Even though many fans would love to see a continuation of Game of Thrones, Kit Harington’s recent statements suggest a reboot with him as Jon Snow is unlikely. While the series finale wasn’t universally hated, it’s still considered one of the most controversial endings in recent television history.
The last season of the original Game of Thrones received a lot of negative feedback from both critics and viewers, leading to continued discussion and requests for more content. In the six years since it ended, the franchise has grown with new shows like House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which explore different parts of the Game of Thrones universe.
Kit Harington Doesn’t Want To Play Jon Snow Again
Even with the popularity of House of the Dragon and the excitement for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, it’s now very clear that we won’t be getting another season of Game of Thrones. Kit Harington, a star from the original series, recently stated definitively in an interview with Variety that a follow-up is not going to happen.
Kit Harington was very direct when asked if he’d ever play Jon Snow again, stating, “Absolutely not, I don’t want anything to do with it.” While some might be surprised, his answer echoes what many of his fellow cast members have said recently. Given the show’s complicated history and the actors’ busy careers, a reunion doesn’t seem likely.
Game Of Thrones Season 8 Was Never Going To Happen
Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke, who worked with Harington on Game of Thrones, are currently starring in the Dexter: Resurrection revival and a new spy series called Pixies on Peacock. The rest of the Game of Thrones cast are also working on various projects, from independent films to big-budget movies and television shows. Plus, with so many Game of Thrones spin-offs already in development, a direct sequel series seems increasingly unlikely.
What Does This Mean For HBO’s Game Of Thrones Sequels?
The original actors are all working on other projects, and interest in continuing that specific story is fading as more spin-offs are released. Shows like House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms are adding to the franchise by introducing new characters, locations, and viewpoints within its fictional universe.
As time goes on, the idea of a season 8 of Game of Thrones seems less and less likely. With one of the show’s most popular actors stating they don’t want to return, many viewers are convinced we’ll never see it. However, that doesn’t mean the Game of Thrones universe is over – new shows are still planned for the future.
