HBO’s Harry Potter Series Casts the Weasleys (& Reveals First Look)

In the upcoming “Harry Potter” series on HBO, the Weasley clan is expanding. The remake has already selected several key characters from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but prior to this, we’ll first encounter the Weasleys at Platform Nine and Three-Quarters. Alastair Stout will be playing Harry’s buddy, Ron, while Katherine Parkinson takes on the role of Ron’s mom, Molly. Recently, HBO disclosed the younger actors chosen to portray four of Ron’s siblings. However, only four Weasley siblings have been cast so far, with the two eldest still to be announced since they don’t appear in the initial books, leaving room for future introductions.

In the upcoming production, the playful twins Fred and George Weasley are set to be portrayed by actual twin brothers Tristan and Gabriel Harland, as announced by HBO. Their eldest sibling Percy will be brought to life by Ruari Spooner, while the youngest Weasley sister and only girl, Ginny, will be played by Gracie Cochrane. A selfie featuring these four cast members along with Stout was shared on HBO’s Instagram account on Tuesday, marking the exciting news.

When Will We See the Weasleys?

In the world of Harry Potter, the Weasley family plays a significant role, and since this new adaptation aims to be truer to the books than the films, their importance is likely to be highlighted even more. As for the first book’s screen adaptation, all the Weasleys from the initial story should make an appearance. However, it’s crucial that they cast Ron’s father, Arthur Weasley, before moving on to the second book or any subsequent seasons, as his character is integral to the plot progression.

In this season, it’s worth noting that Charlie Weasley deserves a shout-out for his crucial role in helping Harry, Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, and others secretly transport the baby dragon Norbert off Hogwarts grounds. The movies compacted some details for brevity, but the show has ample opportunity to delve deeper into these events. However, it’s important to mention that Charlie doesn’t physically appear until the fourth book, and he only reappears in the seventh one.

Bill, the oldest brother, plays a more significant role in the story, appearing from book four onwards. The question arises about whether Bill and another sibling will be chosen for the TV series before they make their first appearance, so their photos can be displayed in the Weasley family home. This could potentially be bypassed if the show represents Molly Weasley’s “grandfather clock” creatively, where each hand represents a family member with their picture on it. However, the show might choose to just write the names instead of using photos.
