Heads up soldiers, Battlefield 6 joins REDSEC in being free next week — here’s when you can play, and how the free trial works

Battlefield 6, the newest installment in Electronic Arts’ popular Battlefield series, is already shaping up to be one of the biggest games of 2025. Since launching just last month, it’s quickly become a hit with multiplayer fans. It had 750,000 players on Steam at the same time and sold over 7 million copies in its first three days, and it continues to be a top-selling and highly-played game.

Despite competition from popular games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and ARC Raiders, Battlefield is currently performing very well. Normally, the game costs $69.99, but it will soon be available to play for free for a limited time.

Next week, from November 25th to December 2nd, players who don’t own Battlefield 6 will be able to try it out for free. This free trial was recently announced and will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5.

In just one week, Battlefield 6 will launch with its battle royale mode, REDSEC, available to play for free. It’s expected that any progress you make – like leveling up and unlocking items – will still count if you later purchase the full game.

Battlefield Studios announced that players can try out the fast-paced, online battles of Battlefield 6 for free for a week.

Just so you know, the free trial does have a few restrictions. You’ll only be able to play certain maps and modes – specifically, five modes and three maps are available during the trial.

Four of the five game modes have been revealed: Conquest, Breakthrough, Sabotage, and Team Deathmatch. Conquest and Breakthrough are long-standing Battlefield favorites, Sabotage is a brand new mode, and Team Deathmatch is a simple race to reach 100 kills. The fifth mode remains a mystery, but it’s likely either Rush or the large-scale Escalation mode from Battlefield 6.

Just so you know, the free trial has a few restrictions. You won’t have full access to everything – you’ll only be able to play certain maps and game modes. Specifically, the trial includes access to three maps and five different game modes.

The game will feature a variety of maps, including Blackwell Fields from Season 1, which has a lot of vehicles. There’s also the new Eastwood map, added with the California Resistance update, and Siege of Cairo, a map designed more for infantry combat, though tanks are still present. While Blackwell Fields isn’t a fan favorite due to its open design and lack of cover, both Eastwood and Siege of Cairo are excellent maps.

To mark the launch of California Resistance, we’re offering a free trial showcasing all the new content. This includes the Eastwood map, a new tank mission in REDSEC’s Gauntlet mode, hidden supply stashes with valuable loot in battle royale, and a limited-time 8v8 mode called Sabotage where you’ll protect or destroy cargo. We’ve also added the new DB-12 shotgun and M357 Trait pistol. You can find more details in the developer’s blog post.

Battlefield 6 is a really great multiplayer shooter, easily one of the best I’ve played recently, despite a few problems like small maps and some ongoing bugs. If you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend checking out the free trial when it becomes available.

The game is available on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PS5 for $69.99. However, you can find an Xbox code for $65.99 at Loaded. It’s not a huge savings, but any discount is welcome!
