It feels like forever since we found out a new Star Trek series is coming in 2026! I’ve been rewatching old episodes on Paramount+ to pass the time, but even my favorite Deep Space Nine episodes can’t quite match the cozy feeling of watching Christmas movies this time of year.
I really want to see a Star Trek holiday special, but Star Trek: Generations doesn’t quite count just because of Picard’s brief Christmas-themed fantasy sequence. Luckily, there’s a company with a lot of experience making holiday movies that I think would be a great fit for Star Trek. I’m suggesting Hallmark create a holiday movie specifically for Star Trek fans.

Hallmark And Star Trek Have Had A Partnership For Decades
Hallmark and Star Trek have been working together since 1991, releasing a new series of Christmas ornaments every year. Though the fun commercials featuring Romulans and appearances by Leonard Nimoy are no longer running, fans can still collect ornaments based on beloved ships, characters, and moments from the Star Trek universe each holiday season.
The popularity of expensive LEGO Enterprise sets proves there’s a demand for Star Trekthemed holiday merchandise. Surprisingly, we haven’t seen any official products from the shows or movies themselves. Perhaps Hallmark could fill this gap and even reach a new audience with Trekinspired items?
The success of NFL Films proves that creative approaches can really work, and I think the same could be true for Star Trek. I’m open to all kinds of stories – whether it’s a traditional Starfleet adventure, actors from the show playing themselves, or even a romantic comedy about fans meeting at a convention. I’ve even got some ideas and would love to contribute to the writing process!

Star Trek Actors Have Appeared In Hallmark Movies Before
It wouldn’t be difficult to cast a Star Trekthemed Hallmark movie. Several actors with Trek* experience, like Jonathan Frakes, Robert Picardo, and Dan Jeanotte, have already appeared in Hallmark’s holiday films. Many other seasoned actors would likely be great in such a movie if their schedules allowed.
I think someone like Brent Spiner would be hilarious in a project like this. He didn’t really get a chance to fully show off his comedic side while playing Data, except in Star Trek: Generations. But he’s just one of many actors I’d enjoy seeing in these kinds of movies – there are lots of others I haven’t seen on screen in a while that I’d love to watch.

Star Trek Has Never Attempted Holiday Specials
Surprisingly, Star Trek has never done a Christmas special, and fans likely understand why. The show’s creator, Gene Roddenberry, had complex beliefs about religion and didn’t follow any modern faiths. Given his vision of the future, it makes sense that the characters in Starfleet wouldn’t celebrate Christmas, a holiday with roots in both pagan and Christian traditions.
Since the original Star Trek series ended, the franchise has explored religion in many ways, showcasing diverse cultures with unique beliefs and even including Christian references, like Captain Pike reciting the Lord’s Prayer. Because of this, a Star Trek Christmas movie or special produced by Hallmark seems perfectly possible – it could definitely work with the right creative team.

If It’s Bad, It Can Become A Cult Classic Like Star Wars’ Holiday Special
Some fans might worry a Star Trek Christmas movie could be bad, but does that mean it shouldn’t be made? Plenty of terrible Christmas movies exist – for every classic, there are many more that don’t quite work out. A Hallmark-style Trek Christmas movie might not be a hit, but that’s a risk every new Christmas movie takes.

I’m Excited About The Latest Star Trek Movie News, But Have One Big Request As A Longtime Fan
I watch the Star Wars Holiday Special every year. It’s famously bad – so much so that Disney only allows the Boba Fett animated segment to be shown on its streaming service. It’s definitely flawed, and parts of it seem made by people unfamiliar with Star Wars, but I still enjoy it. At its worst, it’s like a cheesy Star Trek holiday movie from Hallmark – a fun, guilty pleasure to watch during the holidays.
A collaboration between Star Trek and Hallmark could create something really unique and attract viewers who don’t normally watch either franchise during the holidays. There’s a wealth of experienced Star Trek writers currently working in Hollywood who could contribute to this project. I’m so enthusiastic about this idea – I would definitely be in the audience, and that’s why I’m advocating for it.
Now that Paramount and Skydance have merged, it’s uncertain if they’d be interested in a project like this. The studio is clearly focused on bringing Star Trek back to the big screen, and a Hallmark-style movie might not help with that goal. However, it could at least remind a wider audience about the franchise, which hasn’t had a theatrical release in nearly ten years, and that could be beneficial.

Okay, so if you’re a sci-fi fan like me, you need to know about Paramount+. It’s where all the Star Trek goodness lives! They’ve got a couple of subscription options – a basic one for $7.99 a month, or an ad-free Premium plan for $12.99. But honestly, if you’re planning on being a regular viewer, the best deal is definitely signing up for the yearly plan – it saves you a bunch of cash in the long run. I just grabbed mine!
Since there aren’t any Star Trek Christmas movies available, I’ll probably just re-watch some regular episodes on Paramount+. But I really hope Paramount, Skydance, or Hallmark considers making one—there are plenty of Star Trek fans who’d love a festive holiday special!
