Heart Eyes 2 Officially Sets 2028 Release Date

The popular slasher film from 2025 is officially getting a sequel! A second Heart Eyes movie is planned, continuing the story from last year’s hit.

Paramount Pictures has scheduled a new movie for release in theaters on February 11, 2028. The first film, released by Sony Pictures, earned over $33 million worldwide on an $18 million budget. While not a huge blockbuster, it was praised as one of the best slasher films in recent years. Director Josh Ruben hinted that a sequel could follow the formula of a classic romantic comedy.

Heart Eyes 2 Is Officially Moving Forward

What’s really promising about this concept is the chance to recreate the feel of a classic romantic comedy, but with a terrifying twist – a psychopathic killer looming over everything. I’d definitely be interested in exploring that. This setup gives the story a lot of potential for longevity. The challenge will be finding the right balance between the exciting new elements – like the horror and gore – and a genuinely moving love story, whether it’s a blossoming romance or a complicated breakup. That emotional connection is what will truly make this film successful.

Ruben directed Heart Eyes, a movie written with Phillip Murphy, Christopher Landon, and Michael Kennedy. It features Olivia Holt (known from Runaways) and Mason Gooding (Scream movies) as colleagues who are wrongly assumed to be a couple by a Valentine’s Day-targeting serial killer. The killer’s distinctive mask, featuring red heart-shaped eyes, quickly earned him the moniker “Heart Eyes Killer” (HEK) and made him a well-known figure in the horror genre – so much so that he was parodied in the trailer for this year’s Scary Movie.

The cast of Heart Eyes also featured talented actors like Gigi Zumbado (known from The Rookie), Michaela Watkins (Saturday Night Live), Jordana Brewster (Fast & Furious movies), Yoson An (Plane), and horror favorite Devon Sawa (Chucky, Final Destination).

Heart Eyes Becomes the Newest Horror Franchise

The success of Heart Eyes as a horror film, especially since it wasn’t based on any pre-existing story or franchise, is impressive. Most popular modern slasher movies are sequels, like the recent Scream 7. With new films planned for franchises like Terrifier, Chucky, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it’s fantastic to see a completely original slasher villain, the Heart Eyes Killer, gain enough popularity to potentially launch a new series.

Heart Eyes 2 will be released in movie theaters on Feb. 11, 2028, while the first film is .
