Heartstopper movie gets major update from creator with details of release strategy

Alice Oseman, the creator of Heartstopper, has shared some new information about the release date of the show’s final, feature-length episode.

The final chapter of the Heartstopper story, based on the sixth and last book in Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series, is coming this year. Titled Heartstopper: Forever, it will conclude the stories of Nick (played by Kit Connor) and Charlie (played by Joe Locke).

Alice Oseman announced at the London Book Fair that the movie adaptation won’t come out until after her sixth book is released on July 2nd.

Oseman explained to Deadline that the show won’t be released until after the book. They emphasized wanting readers to experience the story’s conclusion through the book first, clarifying that the series is an adaptation of the book, not the other way around.

Following the events of season 3, where Charlie was recovering from an eating disorder and Nick began visiting universities, Heartstopper: Forever will continue the story.

This created uncertainty about where Nick and Charlie’s relationship was headed, particularly when Nick expressed interest in moving to Leeds, putting a significant distance between them.

Filming finished on the movie back in July. In a December update, Oseman shared that editing and other post-production work was still happening, but the team had made significant progress.

She announced on Instagram that after the film is dubbed into lots of different languages – a process that will take a few months – they’ll finally get to the part I’m most excited about!

When the movie was announced in April, Alice Oseman shared their excitement, saying they were thrilled to finally be able to finish telling the Heartstopper story.
