As fans eagerly await the second season of Heated Rivalry, the show’s creator has revealed some updates about what’s to come. He also explained why he’s taking his time with production, despite the growing excitement on social media, for the series starring Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie.

Jacob, 46, explained to the Los Angeles Times that while he’s grateful for the intense fan excitement, the first season succeeded because he followed his instincts. He plans to do the same this time around.

The director has confirmed that the next season of the show, based on The Long Game – the sixth book in Rachel Reid’s Game Changers series – will premiere in spring 2027.

I’m completely hooked on the story of Shane and Ilya, and I’m dying to know how much of the book will be covered in season two! The creator, Jacob, hasn’t given us many details, but he has said he’s planning to stick with the same six-episode format as the first season, which is good to know. I’m just so eager to see their relationship unfold on screen!

He said he preferred to focus on quality over quantity. He’d rather find ways to make each episode as strong as possible than try to stretch the story out over more episodes. He explained he always favored being careful and efficient over being overly expansive.

In fact, his production partner Brendan Brady is fully on board with this sentiment. 

He explained in the interview that they aim to leave viewers wanting more. He believes that’s what makes the show so popular, emphasizing that subtlety and restraint are key – ‘less is more!’

Even though Ilya and Shane are still the main focus of Heated Rivalry, other attractive characters from Reid’s hockey world—besides Scott Hunter (François Arnaud) and Kip Grady (Robbie G.K.)—will also have important roles and storylines.
