Heidi Klum Details Being Told She Was “Not Sexy” While Pregnant

Heidi Klum was told auf wiedersehen as a pregnant model.

The host of Project Runway recently shared stories about the challenges she’s faced throughout her long career in fashion, including being turned down for a job when she was pregnant with one of her four children.

Heidi Klum shared in an interview with Paper magazine that a client dropped her when she became pregnant. She explained they felt she was no longer considered ‘sexy’ because she was now a mother. Klum has four children: Leni (21), Henry (20), Johan (19), and Lou (16), with her ex-husband, Seal.

The 52-year-old also had trouble finding designers who wanted to dress her baby bump.

She explained that pregnant women weren’t often shown on TV back then. She was pregnant throughout the entire run of the show, which presented a problem because it was difficult to find clothes that fit her changing body.

That’s why Heidi started not one, but two maternity clothing lines in 2010.

Honestly, it’s always been about the outfits, you know? She was so funny, she basically said, ‘What am I supposed to wear?’ Like, she wasn’t going to just disappear while expecting! She’s a performer – she’s on stage, she’s on TV – and this is a show about fashion! She absolutely needs amazing clothes, and I totally get it! It’s not about hiding, it’s about owning it, and looking fabulous while doing it. I mean, seriously, the outfits are EVERYTHING!

Heidi Klum’s daughter, Leni, who is starting her own modeling career, believes the industry has changed for the better. She explained that previous generations faced much stricter standards, but now there are more opportunities for a wider range of people.

Heidi’s oldest son, Henry, confirmed he felt the same way, and both he and his sister Leni were motivated by their mother’s career to try modeling themselves.

He remembered they always made time to visit her when she was filming. Everyone was fascinated by her, and she always seemed to be enjoying herself on set. He said he wanted to feel that same joy.

Leni added, “I just fell in love with it, and I’m still in love with it now.”

In July 2021, the pair went to the LuisaViaRoma for Unicef event held at La Certosa di San Giacomo in Capri, Italy.
