Recently, photos from Henry Cavill’s original screen test for Superman have surfaced online thanks to Zack Snyder sharing them on Instagram. Snyder posted a full-body shot of Cavill in the Superman suit, praising the image and stating it was clear Cavill was the right choice. He also shared a close-up photo—the same ones he sent to Warner Bros. to convince them to cast Cavill. Snyder explained that these photos were what sealed the deal, confirming to everyone that Henry Cavill was Superman, and marked the beginning of his journey with the role. He shared the photos with a Merry Christmas message.
In a 2011 interview with Total Film, Henry Cavill described the moment he first put on the Superman suit. He said it was an incredible feeling – seeing himself in the mirror, he couldn’t help but laugh out loud. It hit him then that it wasn’t a dream anymore, but reality – he was actually going to play Superman.
Zack Snyder, the director of Justice League, was very impressed when he first saw Henry Cavill wearing the Superman costume. He explained that pulling off the suit is a significant accomplishment, and when Cavill put it on, there was an immediate sense of confidence and authenticity. Unlike other actors who might look silly in the suit, even if talented, Cavill embodied the character from the moment he wore it – he truly was Superman.
