Hideo Kojima, the acclaimed video game creator behind titles like Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, recently released a new trailer for his upcoming Xbox horror game, OD. While Kojima is known for action and adventure games with unsettling moments, fans have long hoped he’d create a dedicated horror experience. He came close with the cancelled project Silent Hills at Konami, and OD seems to be fulfilling that desire.
I remember when I first played *PT* – it was seriously terrifying and such a cool glimpse into what could have been the next *Silent Hill*! It’s still a huge bummer that game never happened, but I was so excited when Hideo Kojima announced he was working on a new horror game, *OD*, with Xbox and Jordan Peele. It’s been really quiet about *OD* though, and honestly, it felt like *Death Stranding 2* took over as his main focus for a while. I’m still hoping we’ll hear more about *OD* eventually!
Hideo Kojima Reveals New Trailer for Xbox Horror Game OD
Earlier this year, some fans worried that the game *OD* might be cancelled or significantly altered, but those fears are unfounded. Hideo Kojima recently revealed a new trailer for *OD* at a live event, and even invited Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, to discuss the game. The trailer is remarkably realistic, created using the Unreal Engine, and is so lifelike that it’s easy to mistake it for a real-life film, especially before you see actress Sophia Lillis. The footage is very mysterious, filled with cryptic text, some of which is hidden or obscured.
The trailer shows a character lighting candles in a room filled with eerie figures and images, including baby-like forms that also appeared in Kojima’s previous games, *PT* and *Death Stranding*. A shadowy figure then enters the room, aggressively grabbing the character’s head and causing her to scream. While the game’s story and release date remain a mystery, it’s clear that *OD* is a major focus for Kojima. He’s hinted that the game will be divisive among players, though the specifics of that statement are currently unclear.
Currently, *OD* is available on Xbox and PC. However, Phil Spencer has hinted that they’re working to make it playable on more platforms – potentially including PlayStation 5 and even mobile devices. Because of long-standing rumors about the game using cloud technology, it’s likely *OD* could be streamed to a variety of devices.
