Wildlight Entertainment surprised viewers at The Game Awards with the announcement of Highguard, a new fantasy shooter. Made by the team behind Titanfall and Apex Legends, the game will be available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC starting January 26th, 2026. Highguard features Wardens, characters who fight using a combination of magic and guns.
The core idea is to battle other Wardens to claim the Shieldbreaker, a powerful weapon used to dismantle their strongholds. But it’s not a quick process – you first break down the protective shield around an enemy base, then call in a giant siege weapon to launch a full-scale assault.
Highguard is a fast-paced, team-based shooter focused on player-versus-player combat, but without the typical ‘extraction’ element. Players can move quickly using wall-running, create their own paths by destroying walls, and utilize unique character abilities – everything from throwing knives to powerful melee attacks. A cool addition is the ability to ride mounts to quickly get around the map and reach objectives. We’ll have more information about Highguard soon.
