Just a few days after Highguard launched, it seemed like the game might fail. Player numbers dropped quickly to a level that was really worrying.
Despite recent concerns, the game is currently maintaining a fairly stable player base, with an average of around 7,000 players online at the same time over the past few days, according to SteamDB data.
While the numbers aren’t amazing, the game is still running, which is good news. Even better, we’re starting to see a small increase in the number of players.
The game now permanently features its five-on-five raid mode thanks to its popularity. Developer Wildlight Entertainment initially released it as a limited-time event over the weekend, but decided to make it a regular part of the game.
We’ve received a lot of questions about it, and we’re excited to announce that 5v5 Raid Mode is now a permanent feature!
Thanks to everyone who played the new mode over the weekend! We noticed a good balance of players trying out both the 3v3 and 5v5 versions, and that feedback was really helpful in our decision-making process.
Many players felt Highguard’s maps were too large for three-versus-three battles. Most agreed that the game played better with five-versus-five teams.
We don’t know if adding a five-on-five mode would have significantly changed how players initially reacted to the game, but it might help maintain player interest while the developers refine and improve other parts of the experience.
Highguard shows promise, but it needs to deliver on that promise quickly if the game wants to stay popular for a long time.
Still enjoying Highguard? Do you believe the game can be saved? Keep the discussion civil in the comments!
