Hilary Duff’s Husband Matthew Koma Weighs In on Who “Mature” Is About

Hey now, hey now, Hilary Duff‘s husband has some thoughts about her comeback single “Mature.”

There’s been a lot of speculation about who Taylor Swift’s diss track was about, with guesses ranging from her ex, Joel Madden, to Leonardo DiCaprio, known for dating younger women. However, Matthew Koma, Swift’s husband, thinks the song was actually about someone much older than herself.

During a recent interview with Hilary on Apple Music 1, the musician joked that the song might be about Bernie Sanders. He explained he feels less intimidated by the 84-year-old politician than by some other people fans have speculated about, adding, “I have a few ideas of my own.”

Hilary playfully noted that singing about Bernie and other men his age would be too predictable. She jokingly listed examples like Dick Van Dyke, 99, Patrick Stewart, 85, Morgan Freeman, 88, and Danny DeVito, 81.

Matthew, 38, expressed a strong preference for the suggestions, saying he liked them even better than Leonardo DiCaprio. Hilary chimed in, adding that she’s a big fan of Danny DeVito.

He added to the Lizzie McGuire alum, “You love a short king.”

There’s been a lot of online buzz about Hilary Duff’s new single, “Mature,” with many fans speculating it’s inspired by her relationship with Joel Madden. The song seems to mirror the age difference between them – Hilary was in her early twenties when they started dating, while Joel was in his thirties – a dynamic reminiscent of their romance in the early 2000s.

In the song, Hilary sings about someone who reminds her of her younger self, saying, ‘She looks like she could be your daughter, like me before I gained experience.’ She also recalls being pleased when people told her she seemed older and wiser than she was, singing, ‘I used to be flattered when you’d say I was mature for my age.’

The song “Mature” seems to be about Good Charlotte’s lead singer, Joel Madden. However, his wife, Nicole Richie, who is good friends with Hilary Duff, doesn’t believe that’s the case.

She jokingly wrote on Instagram in November that ‘mature’ wasn’t the right word for her and Hilary, but added that the song they were listening to was fantastic.
