Hoda Kotb Shares Update on Relationship With Ex Joel Schiffman

Hoda Kotb still finds joy in her relationship with Joel Schiffman.

I was so interested to hear what Kathie Lee Gifford had to say on *Today* recently! She finally opened up about where things stand with her ex-fiancé, and how they’re co-parenting their adorable daughters, Haley, who’s 8, and little Hope, who’s 6. It’s good to see them navigating things for the kids.

Hoda shared with Savannah Guthrie on Today that she had a realization during a retreat about a past relationship. She explained that even though she loved someone deeply – and still does – they weren’t the right fit for her at that time. She realized she was ready to focus on her own needs and find fulfillment in other areas of her life.

Hoda revealed she and Joel ended their eight-year relationship in January 2022. In her new book, *Jump and Find Joy*, she explained that she had been so focused on working that she hadn’t been present in her life. Now, she’s enjoying a slower pace and appreciating simple moments, like having barbecues with Joel and their neighbors, and watching the kids and their dog play.

As Hoda said, she and Joel are still working together to raise their daughters. She even posted a touching tribute to him on Father’s Day back in June.

She wished her ex, Joel, a happy Father’s Day on Instagram, sharing a photo of him with their daughters, Haley and Hope, and writing, “Happy Father’s Day Joel!”

Hoda has often spoken highly of Joel since their separation. In a 2024 interview on *the Jamie Kern Lima Show*, she described him as “one of the best people” and “a great human being.” She added that even two wonderful people can sometimes be incompatible in a relationship.

Hoda, who shares her daughters Haley and Hope with Joel, acknowledges her former partner’s role in her becoming a mother.

Hoda shared with People magazine in 2022 that she has two wonderful children with Joel. She credits him with giving her the courage to become a mother, saying she likely wouldn’t have had Haley and Hope if it weren’t for him, as she was hesitant to raise children on her own.

Kathie Lee Gifford, a longtime friend and former co-host of Hoda on Today, met Hope in early May and the two seemed to enjoy each other’s company all day.

Last April, the 55-year-old TV personality posted a family photo on Instagram with the caption, “This is us xo.”

Hoda Kotb shared the wonderful news of her daughter Hope’s arrival, surprising her colleagues at the Today show with the announcement that she had adopted her second child.

The TV host marked Valentine’s Day by celebrating her daughter Haley’s second birthday. She shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, simply writing, “So much love today.”

In March 2018, the Oklahoma native celebrated her partner Joel Schiffman’s 60th birthday with their daughter and a cake she made herself.
