If you enjoy spy thrillers, you’ll be excited to hear that a top-rated series is now available on Netflix U.S. for the first time. All eight seasons have unexpectedly been added to the platform after Netflix secured the rights to stream it worldwide through 2027.
The TV series Homeland ran on Showtime from 2011 to 2020. Because Disney now owns the show through 20th Television, many were surprised to see it appear on Netflix. However, Homeland was a Netflix exclusive in the U.K. for much of its original run, making its appearance there less unexpected. As of February 2024, all seasons have been removed from Netflix.
If you haven’t yet discovered “Homeland,” let me tell you, you’re in for a treat! It’s got an incredible cast – Claire Danes is phenomenal, and Damian Lewis, Mandy Patinkin, Morena Baccarin, Rupert Friend, and F. Murray Abraham are all absolutely brilliant. The story goes like this…
Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody, played by Lewis, comes home after being held captive for eight years. CIA agent Carrie Mathison, portrayed by Danes, suspects he’s been turned and is involved in a terrorist attack planned for the US, leading to a risky and tense pursuit. Later, Carrie is promoted and sent to a highly dangerous CIA station in the Middle East, placing her directly in the center of the fight against terror. Years after becoming disillusioned, she exiles herself to Berlin, distancing herself from the CIA. Eventually, she returns to the US and begins working for an organization that helps American Muslims.

Homeland is a critically acclaimed and popular show, earning an 85% approval rating from both critics and viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. While its first season received perfect scores, later seasons remained highly praised, though ratings dipped slightly to around 80%.
The show’s first season received rave reviews, with many calling it one of the best shows on television and praising its ability to meet high expectations. Viewers were hooked by the suspenseful plots and complex storylines, and the second season continued this success with a 93% approval rating. However, as the series went on, opinions began to change, with some feeling the initial spark was lost and others finding the later seasons disappointing. Despite this shift, the show maintained a dedicated audience until its finale. Now, both longtime fans and new viewers can enjoy the complete series on Netflix.
