Disney and Pixar’s new movie, Hoppers, is bringing beavers to the big screen! Following films featuring bugs, dinosaurs, and other creatures, this story centers on Mabel, a young animal lover who uses amazing technology to transfer her mind into a realistic robotic beaver. Directed by Daniel Chong, a longtime Pixar director, the film features the voices of Piper Curda, alongside stars like Bobby Moynihan, Dave Franco, Jon Hamm, Kathy Najimy, and Meryl Streep.
Pixar is well-known for creating beloved characters that aren’t human, but their new film, Hoppers, will explore the animal world in more detail than ever before. Making the movie even gave the voice actors a new understanding of animals, and some of them realized they had previously misunderstood how animals behave.
Bobby Moynihan, who stars in Hoppers and voices the character King George (a beaver), recently told MovieWeb that working on the film taught him a lot about beavers. He explained that it wasn’t just a typical voice acting job – he actually learned quite a bit about beaver biology during the production.
I recall learning about keystone species – those that have a huge impact on their environment. For example, a beaver can be introduced to almost any place and begin creating its own little ecosystem. I find that concept incredibly beautiful and was previously unaware of it. It’s a truly fascinating idea.
‘Hoppers’ Shines a Light on the Wild World of Beavers
Although Hoppers will showcase many animal species (and some will be challenging to animate), beavers will play a central role in the story. The film will likely show viewers how beavers construct their famous dams and offer a glimpse into their social lives, including their family structures.
As Moynihan pointed out, this film will teach viewers about the vital role beavers play in the environment and how skillfully they build their homes using natural materials. The trailers also suggest that Hoppers will delve into the concept of balance in nature, and Mabel’s transformation into a beaver avatar seems poised to disrupt that balance.
Previous trailers hinted that Mabel, now comfortable in her beaver form and with her new friends, starts disrupting the natural order of things when she encounters predators. Though the ultimate outcome is unknown, this disruption will likely spark a full-scale war between animals and humans. Caught between these two worlds, Mabel’s story promises to be another funny, touching, and captivating adventure from Disney and Pixar.
