Horizon 3 is a Long Way Off, “Most of” Guerrilla Games Focused on Hunters Gathering – Rumor

Guerrilla Games has announced the next installment in the Horizon series, but it’s a bit of a surprise for fans. Instead of the expected Horizon 3, they’re releasing Horizon Hunters Gathering, a cooperative hunting game for three players on both PS5 and PC. While this new game is exciting, many are still hoping a full single-player sequel, Horizon 3, is on the way, as the studio has stated they continue to support single-player experiences.

Sadly, that’s not what’s happening. When asked on Bluesky if the sequel would be delayed, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier confirmed it would be. He also indicated that the entire studio at Guerrilla Games is now working on fixing the issues, meaning it will be their main priority for the foreseeable future.

The developers plan to add more story content after the game’s release, and game director Arjan Bak has confirmed that everything in the game is officially part of the established storyline. This suggests the game is entirely centered around the world of Hunters Gathering.

Sony’s attempts to create ongoing, live-service games haven’t gone smoothly, with several projects cancelled, including Concord and the unreleased Fairgame$. However, they still seem committed to the idea. The success of Helldivers 2 and the upcoming release of Bungie’s Marathon in March likely encourage them to keep trying.

Despite the challenges ahead, Guerrilla Games, the team behind Horizon Hunters Gathering, seems to recognize them. They plan to develop the game with input from players, beginning with a test phase later this month for both PlayStation 5 and PC.
