So, I was really hyped for Horizon Steel Frontiers, that new MMO set in the Horizon world with Aloy, but it looks like we won’t be playing it on PS5. It’s a bummer, but Guerrilla Games and NCSOFT are focusing on getting it out for PC and mobile instead. Hopefully it’ll still be awesome on those platforms!
This is the first Horizon game not to be released on PlayStation, but the series isn’t going anywhere. Guerrilla Games, the studio behind the original Horizon games, has confirmed they are still planning to make more in the future.
Following their announcement of a partnership with NCSOFT, the studio shared on social media that they’re continuing to explore more ways for players to connect. They promise to share details soon. A new main Horizon game is currently being developed, and the team is also creating its own online Horizon world.
Although not officially announced, the second project has been quietly building a team for quite some time. Many expect this game to launch before the next Horizon game, potentially delaying Horizon 3 until the release of the PlayStation 6.
Just a day after revealing a new Ratchet & Clank game for mobile devices, Sony has demonstrated they’re still looking for ways to expand their popular franchises to different platforms.
I was so excited when Guerrilla Games announced Horizon Steel Frontiers! Jan-Bart Van Beek, who leads the studio, shared the news, and honestly, as a huge Horizon fan, I couldn’t have been happier to hear it.
We were already enjoying playing Horizon Steel Frontiers as a team here at the studio, and it’s been fantastic. Whenever I’ve had the chance to try out early versions of the game, I’m consistently impressed by its unique feel and atmosphere. It really has its own identity, and the developers at NCSOFT have done a great job bringing it to life.
