Hot Wheels Infinite Rush Is Just The Right Kind Of Massive To Be A Blast

Hot Wheels have been a favorite toy for generations. Using just a few die-cast cars and the iconic orange track, kids have always built incredible worlds for racing, crashing, and imaginative play. Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush aims to capture that same feeling. This is the third Hot Wheels game developed by Milestone, a studio known for making high-quality racing games, and it solidifies their position as a leading developer in the genre.

Unlike realistic racing games like the Forza series, Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush is all about fast-paced, simple arcade fun. It’s easy to pick up and play, letting you quickly speed through colorful environments. During Summer Game Fest, ComicBook played the game and found it was packed with silly challenges – think loop-de-loops and dinosaur stunts! It feels like an open-world version of Burnout, making it a great choice for both kids and anyone who enjoys lighthearted racing.

Rev Your Engines For A Massive Driving Sandbox

Milestone, known for racing games like Ride and MotoGP, has become a major player in the genre. This year alone, they’ve released two innovative titles, with Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush being the latest. Following the success of 2021’s Hot Wheels Unleashed and its sequel Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged, Milestone is now taking the series in an exciting new direction. The newest game offers a more open, sandbox-style experience that really captures the fun and imaginative spirit of Hot Wheels.

Unlike previous Hot Wheels games which were standard racing games with a Hot Wheels theme, Infinite Rush lets you explore vast open worlds. You progress by finding locations and completing challenges, choosing from many different cars divided into four types – some of which are needed for specific races and stunts scattered throughout the game world. The controls are easy to pick up but precise enough to allow skillful driving, especially once you get used to each car’s handling.

Okay, so I got to try out this new racing game, and it’s seriously fun! You can basically smash right through anything in your way to build up speed for these huge jumps – it totally feels like when you were a kid, racing Hot Wheels and just making stuff up as you went. The demo was all about quick, pick-up-and-play action, which is perfect for younger gamers. Honestly, it wasn’t super challenging for me, someone who plays a lot of racing games, but it’s got a ton of bright, colorful energy that makes it really enjoyable anyway.

Driving Through A Sandbox Has Never Felt More Fun

I’ve been playing Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush, and honestly, it feels like exactly what a Hot Wheels game should be! It’s totally open-ended – kind of like building with LEGOs and then letting Batman loose. Both this and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight let you just play however you want. That freedom is awesome; it really captures that feeling of being a kid again, creating huge tracks and seeing what crazy things your cars can do. It’s all about making your own fun.

Exploring the different islands in the game – including Wheelworld, a charming city, and Gearworld, a desert landscape filled with daring stunt courses – really captures the playful spirit of Hot Wheels. It’s hard to put into words exactly why it’s so appealing. Having grown up playing with Hot Wheels myself and now watching my son enjoy them, I understand the instant thrill of spotting a distant loop or jump and knowing you can speed right through it.

With plenty of challenges and cars to unlock, plus hints of more content coming, Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush offers a lot of fun and surprises. The variety of cars lets players switch things up and keeps the gameplay fresh, preventing it from getting stale. The planned track editor promises even more creative challenges, though we didn’t get to see it in action. This game is a charming and accessible take on the Burnout Paradise style, and I’m excited to play it with my son – and then again when he’s asleep so I can really focus on beating the time trials!

Hot Wheels: Infinite Rush will be available on September 26th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
