In this trailer, SWERY discusses the narrative of the game, and how its gameplay seamlessly blends several genres to immerse players into the 80’s horror cinema atmosphere that it aims for. Although the game’s side-scrolling hack-and-slash action may seem conventional at first glance, SWERY emphasizes that this game boasts distinct death mechanics. These mechanics enable players not only to increase their levels and grow stronger, but also to join forces with their previous selves during battles.
The Hotel Barcelona is often characterized as a unique blend of parody, horror, roguelike, and slasher elements. SWERY further explained that the game’s setting draws inspiration from 1980s horror films.
