The highly anticipated season 3 of House of the Dragon is coming soon, and initial reviews suggest it will be a major success.
The next episode of the Game of Thrones prequel series will continue the story of the Targaryen family’s brutal civil war, called the Dance of the Dragons. It will premiere on HBO on Sunday, June 21st.
Reviews for the show were released on Monday, and so far it’s been very well-received by critics. As of today, it has a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 38 reviews.
Our review of TopMob awarded it a perfect five-star rating. Sci-fi and fantasy editor Louise Griffin described the new season as a thrilling comeback.
The critic praised the first two episodes, noting they begin and end with particularly strong, defining scenes for the series. She described the season’s start as incredibly impressive and energetic.
The long-awaited rivalry between Team Black and Team Green explodes onto the scene in the first episode of Season 3, marking the start of ‘Battle of the Gullet’ after two seasons of buildup.
Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent Hightower in TopMob, recently hinted that the balance of power will dramatically shift in upcoming episodes.
According to Cooke, the scenes between Alicent and Rhaenyra, as played by Emma D’Arcy, feel like a return to their shared past. While their connection seems stuck in time, it’s also filled with a lot of hurt and broken trust.
I’m so excited for season 3! We’re getting more of our favorites like Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen and Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon, and I’m really intrigued by the new cast member, James Norton, who’s playing Lord Ormund Hightower. It’s going to be amazing to see what he brings to the show alongside Cooke and D’Arcy.
Season 3 of House of the Dragon will premiere on HBO Max in the UK on June 22nd. You can currently stream seasons 1 and 2 on Sky and NOW. If you’re interested in watching, you can find details on how to subscribe to Sky TV.
