How Amanda Seyfried Proved She Expected Her Golden Globes 2026 Loss

Like her Mean Girls character, it’s like Amanda Seyfried had ESPN or something.

The lead actress from Housemaid said she expected the result in one of her award categories at the 2026 Golden Globes. The ceremony, hosted by Nikki Glaser, took place on January 11th at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.

When Melissa McCarthy and Kathryn Hahn revealed the nominees for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie – including Amanda for Long Bright River, Michelle Williams for Dying for Sex, Claire Danes for The Beast in Me, Rashida Jones for Black Mirror, Robin Wright for The Girlfriend, and Sarah Snook for All Her Fault – Amanda started clapping quietly. This meant she was ready to applaud when Michelle Williams was announced as the winner.

Beyond her initial applause, the Emmy-winning actress seemed preoccupied, glancing down at something on her table while the other nominees waited with hopeful smiles.

When Amanda found out Michelle wasn’t at the event—she was performing in a play in Brooklyn—she seemed to snap out of her stunned state. She quietly told someone at her table, “Oh, she’s not here.”

Oh my gosh, earlier in the night, my absolute favorite, the incredible actress from The Testament of Ann Lee, was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy! Can you believe it? She was up against Rose Byrne (for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), the amazing Cynthia Erivo (Wicked: For Good), Emma Stone (Bugonia), and Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue). I was so sure she’d win, but Rose Byrne actually took it home! She even looked shocked herself, which was…weird. I still think my girl deserved it, honestly!

“Thank you so much,” she said from stage. “This is such a shock.”

 

Rose Byrne, known for her role in Bridesmaids, jokingly explained why her partner, Bobby Cannavale – father to her sons Rocco, 9, and Rafa, 8 – wasn’t present at the Golden Globes.

 

Rose ended her speech by thanking her husband, Bobby Cannavale, who was unable to attend because he was at a reptile show in New Jersey getting a bearded dragon. She affectionately said, ‘Thank you, baby.’
