We all know Batman is much more than just a superhero in a costume. He’s dedicated his life to becoming incredibly skilled, both physically and mentally, making him one of the most capable heroes around. Even without superpowers, his intense training allows him to compete with even the most powerful heroes. He’s even prepared backup plans in case his Justice League teammates ever lose control.
The famous Justice League story “Tower of Babel” showed just how much planning and preparation Batman dedicates to dealing with his fellow heroes. In the story, Batman’s secret contingency plans are stolen and used by Ra’s al Ghul to overcome the world’s greatest heroes. This was a surprising turn of events that hurt Batman’s image, but it also revealed his strategies for taking down even the most powerful members of the Justice League. Here are 7 of those plans.
7. Plastic Man

Plastic Man is often underestimated, but he’s actually incredibly strong. When Batman learned that the criminal O’Brien was about to be released, he devised a unique plan to stop him. In the “Tower of Babel” story arc, Plastic Man is frozen, making him brittle and prone to breaking. As expected, he shatters into many pieces. It’s a surprisingly effective way to neutralize such a powerful hero.
6. Aquaman

Even though many people don’t consider Aquaman a top-tier hero, he’s actually one of the Justice League’s most powerful members. So, if Batman ever had to defeat him, how would he do it? This story shows Batman using Scarecrow’s fear toxin, modified to give Aquaman an extreme fear of water. Even a small amount of water causes a reaction, putting Aquaman at serious risk of dehydration and even death. It’s a simple plan, but incredibly effective against him.
5. Green Lantern

The Green Lantern’s power ring can create anything the user thinks of, making him incredibly difficult to defeat. However, Batman anticipated this and used hypnosis to temporarily blind Kyle Rayner while he was using the ring. Although Rayner could still create objects with his power, he couldn’t see what he was targeting. This brief blindness caused Rayner to experience fear, weakening his abilities and giving Batman an advantage.
4. The Flash

Even with super speed, being the fastest person alive isn’t helpful if Batman is trying to stop you. Batman created a special bullet designed to disrupt the Flash’s powers. This bullet, lodged in the Flash’s spine, causes seizures if he runs too quickly. It’s a risky plan, but it’s enough to slow him down and allow others to take advantage. It’s a cunning and intelligent move by Batman.
3. Martian Manhunter

In a shocking turn of events, Martian Manhunter was the first hero disabled by Batman’s secret plan. Batman used a seemingly harmless dust containing tiny machines that turned J’onn’s skin into magnesium, causing him to burst into flames. This was especially devastating because fire is Martian Manhunter’s greatest weakness. It took Wonder Woman and the Flash to rescue him before he was completely destroyed. The plan was incredibly brutal, leaving many to question how Batman could conceive of such a thing.
2. Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman is undeniably one of the most iconic heroes. When Batman needed a plan to deal with Dian, he took an unusual approach. Instead of a physical battle, he created a virtual reality experience where Wonder Woman would fight an opponent she couldn’t possibly defeat. His idea was that her unwavering determination would keep her fighting endlessly. It was a smart, if somewhat manipulative, tactic that used her greatest strength – her relentless spirit – against her.
1. Superman

Unlike the well-known green kryptonite, Batman prepared for Superman with red kryptonite – a far more dangerous version. Red kryptonite doesn’t just weaken Superman; it makes his skin see-through, exposing him to harmful solar radiation and causing him intense pain. It’s a more effective way to disable Superman than green kryptonite, as it incapacitates him without being fatal. Batman is always prepared, and this is one of his most useful plans for dealing with the Man of Steel – though, of course, it’s a tool villains can exploit.
