How David Henrie Is Sharing His Italian Holiday Traditions With 3 Kids

David Henrie doesn’t need a wand to transform the holidays into a festive family affair.

David Henrie, known from Wizards of Waverly Place, and his wife, Maria Cahill, are sharing a variety of lovely traditions with their children – Pia, 6, James, 4, and Gemma, 3 – including adding Italian flavors to their Thanksgiving dinner.

David shared with TopMob News that their Thanksgiving always includes an Italian touch. While the turkey is the star of the meal—his wife likes to top it with a bacon lattice for flavor and aroma, cooked slowly—they also stick to classic sides like gravy, mashed potatoes, and stuffing.

And of course, there’s the Italian influence, like lasagna, meatballs, and pasta,” he said, adding with enthusiasm, “you should add those things to absolutely everything!”

And this quality time at the dinner table continues for his family throughout the Christmas season.

David described their family’s Christmas Eve tradition: the Feast of the Seven Fishes. It’s a big meal where they eat seven different seafood dishes, then attend midnight mass. After that, they enjoy a long sleep before opening gifts on Christmas morning.

My kids and I have a special tradition we love. During Advent, we sing songs and light candles, creating a really memorable experience for them.

David and Maria have created family traditions both by carrying on customs from David’s childhood and by starting new ones for their family of five.

The star of Wizards of Waverly Place explained that creating holiday giving traditions is important to their family. They and their wife always look for ways to make giving a special experience, and they’ve previously donated toys through Box of Joy.

One tradition David and Maria are adding into the fold this year: A turn as Thanksgiving Day hosts.

Many millennials, myself included, are hosting Thanksgiving for the first time, and it’s a bit daunting,” the former Disney Channel star shared. “We grew up with wonderful, memorable Thanksgivings – back when we didn’t have cell phones – and we’re hoping to recreate those same amazing experiences, but it’s definitely stressful trying to live up to those memories.

That’s why he was so excited to work with Butterball and help make the holidays a little less stressful with their Thanksgiving Hosting Pants.

He believes these Thanksgiving trousers – designed with lots of pockets for all your cooking tools – aren’t just useful, they also capture the joyful and lighthearted spirit of the holiday, reminding us that Thanksgiving is about having fun with family.

Besides using Butterball’s 1-800-butterball hotline for help, David emphasizes that the most important part of a successful Thanksgiving is the guest list.

He suggested inviting guests who will enjoy themselves no matter how things turn out. He explained that even if something fails, it can actually be more enjoyable – you can relax, have a few drinks, and just have fun with the people you care about. Ultimately, he emphasized that the company is more important than the success of the food or event – invite people who will laugh with you, even if things go wrong, or simply appreciate spending time together.
