Recent gameplay footage of the new Fable game reveals just how detailed and immersive this RPG will be when it launches in 2027. Players can expect smooth combat and meaningful choices that truly impact the story, allowing them to create a unique adventure. Your actions affect your Reputation within each region, changing how characters and communities react to you.
Fable’s Reputation system is its most complex feature, tracking your hero’s relationships with every character in the game. This focus on meaningful choices makes each playthrough unique and exciting, allowing you to truly shape your own story. The game demonstrates how your actions impact your reputation throughout your adventure, showing the consequences of when and why it matters.
Fable Records Each Of Your Character’s Action As They Build A Reputation In Certain Areas

In Fable, everything you do – even small actions – affects your Reputation, which is how people and towns see you. For instance, if you kill a guard in a town, you’ll be labeled as a “Killer” there, and the authorities will immediately notice you if you come back without being disguised. Conversely, saving someone’s life on a quest might earn you a “Merciful” reputation in certain areas, while wearing fancy clothes could simply mark you as “Rich.”
Your reputation isn’t just based on completing quests or making important choices in conversations. It also depends on your everyday actions when you’re around others. For example, a player could quickly gain a “Reckless” reputation just by shooting an arrow into a tavern wall, which could then open or close off certain possibilities for them.
I was a little bummed to hear the classic halo/horns system from the original Fable isn’t coming back, but honestly, the new Reputation system looks even more interesting! Instead of just being ‘good’ or ‘evil,’ it seems like you can build up a bunch of different reputations throughout the game. We’ve seen how you can become more of a ‘Landlord,’ ‘Shrewd’ character, or even ‘Charming’ or ‘Heartless,’ and it looks like everything you do – every choice you make – will subtly shift how people see you. It’s not just about being good or bad, it’s about how you play, and that’s really cool!
Relationships With NPCs Grow Or Decline Based On How You Interact With Them

In Fable, your reputation impacts more than just how towns see you – it significantly changes conversations with individual characters. When you talk to people, the game shows you how they perceive you, unlocking unique dialogue options depending on your reputation. For instance, a merchant might offer you lower prices if they consider you clever or resourceful based on things you’ve done.
You can instantly get a sense of how much NPCs like you, as well as your reputation with them and their overall opinion. Characters who are friendly will offer advantages in the game, while those who dislike you might become openly aggressive. While it’s difficult to fully grasp how the NPC Reputation system works in Fable from just a few interactions, it seems to be a major factor in shaping relationships throughout the game.
Real Consequences From Certain Choices Influence Many Different Parts Of Your Journey

Because your Reputation is always on display during interactions, you’ll constantly be aware of how your choices affect what others think of you. This clear feedback will encourage players to carefully consider the consequences of their actions and try to build a good reputation with characters and locations. Considering how important relationships are in Fable, keeping track of your Reputation is crucial.
This new version of Fable focuses on complex moral choices, unlike previous games which had a simpler good-versus-evil system similar to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Your Reputation constantly changes based on your actions, forcing you to make tough decisions – helping one character might upset another. While you can rebuild your Reputation with enough money, your overall experience will depend on how skillfully you manage these shifting relationships.
Seeing how townsfolk and characters feel about you adds a layer of gameplay that you’ll be interacting with throughout your entire adventure in Fable. This improved system of actions and consequences could be one of the game’s most captivating features, keeping you engaged from beginning to end.
