Mark Ruffalo was the magic trick Woody Harrelson needed up his sleeve.
The Marvel actor shared a story about how he prevented a potential bar fight involving his co-star from the 2013 movie *Now You See Me* while they were on set.
Mark remembered filming the first *Now You See Me* movie in New Orleans, right on the streets. He described it as chaotic, explaining they’d shoot with long lenses and even get pulled into bars mid-scene, sometimes during the middle of Mardi Gras celebrations, as he shared on the *Where Everybody Knows Your Name* podcast with Woody and Ted Danson on October 15th.
The 57-year-old man recounted how he and his friend Woody, 64, went to a crowded bar one evening. A woman approached Woody and told him she was a big fan.
Mark recalled Woody gently touching her arm and saying, ‘Oh, thank you. Thank you, darling.’ Then, someone came over, pushed her aside, and shoved Woody.
Ted, a longtime friend of Woody’s since they worked together on *Cheers* starting in 1985, simply said, “Oh, that’s terrible.”
And Mark agreed.
The actor, known for playing an Avenger, pointed out that Woody’s initial reaction isn’t to push someone away, but to immediately punch them.
Ted, 77, and Woody both laughed, as Mark added it was “the right thing to do, by the way.”
He said it was the correct decision, but then a fight started in the bar.
In fact, Mark found himself in the middle of the chaos.
“I remember grabbing you and pulling you free,” he told Woody, who agreed that’s what had happened.
He admitted he was hesitant, saying, ‘It had the potential to be really enjoyable, but things could easily have gone terribly wrong.’ He explained that while he and I were capable of dealing with any problems, he doubted the others in our group would have been able to.
Oh my gosh, Mark was AMAZING. Seriously, that whole situation was about to EXPLODE, but he just… calmed everyone down. It was incredible! Honestly? I would have been a total mess. I totally would’ve panicked and been the one yelling, ‘I’ll be right back, I need to call for help!’ So embarrassing to admit, but yeah, I’d have run away. Mark is a hero, honestly.
As Mark pointed out, they made a great team. Woody was strong enough to control the head, and Mark could handle the legs, making them a “perfect combination.”
The stars who made the original movies so popular are reuniting for the third film in the series, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, which will be released on November 14th.
