Martha Stewart has tips for every occasion—and that now includes what to wear to a basketball game.
Martha Stewart shared that New York Knicks player Jalen Brunson unintentionally broke her toe while she was sitting courtside in sandals during a game against the Indiana Pacers.
Martha shared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on December 17th that you should always avoid open-toed shoes when sitting on the floor. She explained someone stepped on her toe, and the pain felt as intense as being injured during the final moments of a basketball game against the Pacers.
“Then they went into overtime, which made it even more painful because I couldn’t get up and leave to go take care of my toe,” she continued. “I knew it was broken.”
The 84-year-old woman remembered when Jalen fell onto her lap during the May 21st game – a game that Ben Stiller and Timothée Chalamet also attended – and jokingly called it a “Brunson fracture.”
She told Jimmy Fallon that her husband suddenly collapsed onto her lap, and when she grabbed his arm, it felt shockingly cold. She expected a basketball player to be sweaty, but he was completely cool to the touch, like a cucumber.
Martha remained calm and casually mentioned, “He didn’t realize he’d broken my foot, but he actually did.”
But she wasn’t going to let the 29-year-old go without calling a foul on the incident.
She confessed with a smile, “I’d already met his parents, and they found the whole thing hilarious. They were laughing so hard!”

When asked about what Jalen gave the cookbook author as payment, she jokingly replied that she only received a signed basketball for her grandchild.
Even though the Knicks had a tough loss against the Pacers recently, I’ll always be a New York fan! I remember earlier this year, I took my grandson, Truman, to a game – it was such a special day, and it really cemented my love for the team. Nothing will change that!
Wearing a bright orange sweater amidst a sea of darker clothes, the famous homemaker joked, “If you really look, you’ll spot me—the one in orange—and my soon-to-be twelve-year-old son Truman enjoying a night out at Madison Square Garden.”
While Martha recovers from her recent health issue involving Jalen, here are some other stories about celebrities facing health challenges.

Nikki Bella, known from Total Bellas, shared that one of her breast implants moved after being hit in the chest during a wrestling match with Piper Niven in July 2025.
Oh my gosh, you guys, she actually said this! She told Bella Garcia, her sister, that everything would be alright, that she’d get things fixed ‘one day’! And get this – she told her doctor, straight up, that as soon as she was done with her career, she was coming back to him to make everything perfect. She was so excited, saying they were going to make sure things looked amazing because she knew she’d be getting back in the game, and she didn’t want anything to hold her back! It was just… everything. She’s incredible.

Lupita Nyong’o received a diagnosis of uterine fibroids—non-cancerous growths in or around the uterus—in 2014, which was also the year she won an Academy Award for her acting.
She didn’t reveal her diagnosis until 2025, when she shared on Instagram that she had been privately struggling with it for over ten years.
She explained that growing up, many of us are taught to accept period pain as a normal part of being a woman. This often leaves us dealing with a common issue in silence and feeling isolated.

In July 2025, the actress from Daisy Jones & The Six revealed she’d been hospitalized for a hernia. This happened because she’d been wearing pants that were too tight, which caused a gap in her abdominal muscles.
She messaged Suki on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “You haven’t tweeted in ages!” Then, jokingly, she added, “Have you ever thought maybe I wore such tight pants six months ago that I got a hernia and I’ve been too afraid to mention it?”

As a lifestyle expert, I’m sending good vibes to the former Beverly Hills, 90210 star! He shared back in April of this year that he was on the mend after a scary health scare – his appendix almost burst, and he had to have surgery. Thankfully, he’s recovering now!
Brian shared in an Instagram video that he recently experienced stomach pain, which led him to the emergency room. He discovered he had a perforated appendix – it hadn’t fully burst, but was very close to it.
He added, “I’m on the road to recovery. It’s not an easy process. This is my first major surgery.”

During a soccer game against Seattle Reign on September 14th at Lumen Field in Seattle, a midfielder from Racing Louisville collapsed after only a few minutes of play.
According to Reuters, the U.S. Women’s National Team player was seen slowly sitting down on the field with a teammate supporting her, before suddenly collapsing. Trainers were immediately called to assess her condition.
After receiving immediate medical attention on the field, Savannah was taken to a nearby hospital for further tests. League officials reported she is currently in stable condition and alert.

Adam Devine revealed that injuries from being hit by a cement truck at age 11 still cause him problems today.
“It’s been awful,” Devine shared on the In Depth With Graham Bensinger podcast in 2025. “I experience spasms all over my body, and doctors recently told me I was close to death—within the last year, actually.”
He explained that his pain is intermittent, saying his body has some minor imperfections and isn’t quite working as it should.

A former contestant on The Bachelor had to be hospitalized after experiencing severe back pain. He described having to crawl to get help, and said the pain worsened during a recent road trip with a friend.
He described a strange tingling sensation that still lingered in his legs as of March 2025, sharing this on his Trading Secrets podcast. He explained that just a few weeks or a month prior, he was able to squat 295 pounds, but now he couldn’t even do a single squat or stand on one leg without falling. He compared the feeling to having a stroke.
But with the help of a back specialist and some steroids, he added, “We’re on the mend.”

As many of you know, I share a lot of my life, and I wanted to let you know that my ex-husband, Matt, had a heart attack back in March of this year. Thankfully, he pulled through, and we’re all so relieved. It was a scary time, but I’m grateful he’s doing better.

In March 2025, the actor from 30 Rock experienced a medical issue at a New York Knicks game and had to be taken out of Madison Square Garden in a wheelchair.
The comedian later posted on social media to explain that he hadn’t been feeling well due to food poisoning, but was now recovering.

I was so shocked to hear that Christy Carlson Romano, who I grew up watching on Even Stevens, was shot in the face! It happened while she was on a birthday trip with her husband, Brendan Rooney – they were out shooting clay pigeons when it happened. She shared the news back in February 2025, and I’ve been sending her all my best wishes ever since.
In an Instagram post, she explained that she was accidentally shot in the face by someone at a party who fired a weapon unsafely. Brendan Rooney quickly helped her, evaluating her injuries and immediately taking her to the hospital. She was hit five times, and one bullet narrowly missed her right eye, coming within an inch of a direct hit.
The Kim Possible actor explained that a small piece of something is stuck behind their eye. Doctors have advised against removing it with surgery right now, and they’ll be closely monitoring the situation. Thankfully, their vision is currently normal.
The actress expressed immense gratitude for surviving a frightening experience. She shared her deep love for her daughters, husband, family, and friends, emphasizing how quickly life can change. She urged everyone to cherish their loved ones and hug them whenever possible, as life is precious and unpredictable.

Amy Schumer is grateful for the internet, even though it can be harsh, because it helped her discover a health issue. After noticing she looked “puffier” and receiving critical comments online, doctors began commenting, suggesting she might have Cushing syndrome due to high cortisol levels or steroid injections. This prompted Amy to realize she’d been receiving steroid injections after a breast reduction and C-section. She later learned she had a form of Cushing syndrome that would resolve on its own, which she described as “the greatest news imaginable.” Amy is now relieved to be healthy and credits the internet with bringing the issue to her attention.

As a huge hockey fan and especially a follower of the AHL, I was really shaken to hear about the injury one player suffered in December 2024. He was unfortunately cut by a skate during a game and needed 25 stitches! Thankfully, he made a full recovery, and his dad, Tom Fitzgerald – the GM of the New Jersey Devils – shared how relieved they were with ESPN. He said they felt incredibly lucky, and honestly, you could hear the emotion in his voice – he said he wouldn’t wish that experience on any parent, and I completely understand why.

I was so scared when I heard about what happened to Hailey Bieber! Back in March 2022, she was having breakfast with Justin and suddenly started having stroke-like symptoms. She shared that Justin noticed something was wrong and asked if she was okay, but she couldn’t even respond. She couldn’t speak, and the right side of her face started to droop. Thankfully, it stopped and her speech came back, but she went straight to the hospital to get checked out. It turned out she’d had a small blood clot travel to her brain, which doctors called a TIA. Later, they discovered she had a hole in her heart, a PFO, which is how the clot had gotten to her brain in the first place. She had a procedure to close the PFO and thankfully, she says she’s feeling amazing now. It was such a scary experience, but I’m so relieved to hear she’s doing well!

The same year Hailey faced a health issue, Justin also experienced one. In June 2022, he revealed he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition that caused temporary paralysis on one side of his face. This forced him to cancel the rest of his Justice World Tour.
In a video posted to Instagram, Justin explained the virus affected nerves in his ear and face, preventing him from blinking, smiling, or moving his nostril on the affected side. He also mentioned it became increasingly difficult to eat.
Fortunately, the paralysis eventually went away. Hailey shared on Good Morning America that Justin was recovering well, calling the situation scary but assuring everyone he would be okay and was grateful he was on the mend.

Jamie Foxx initially kept his health issues private after being hospitalized in April 2023, but he later shared what happened. He described having a severe headache one day while in Atlanta and asking for aspirin. Before he could take it, he lost consciousness and doesn’t remember the next 20 days.
Initially, a doctor gave him a cortisone shot and sent him home, but his sister, Deidra Dixon, was worried and took him to the hospital. Doctors discovered he had a brain bleed that caused a stroke.
After surgery, Jamie woke up in a wheelchair on May 4th, unable to walk. He then went to Chicago for rehabilitation and therapy. He expressed his gratitude for the prayers he received, saying, “I needed every prayer.”

The reality TV star said she temporarily stopped breathing while running a mile during the first challenge on the NBC competition show.
She shared on the show Fit for TV: The Reality of The Biggest Loser that her memory of the event was fragmented. She recalled hearing a helicopter, feeling like she was floating, and then seeing her grandfather. After that, everything went dark, but she then saw light, leading her to realize she had died that day.
Let me tell you, I was seriously unwell – my body was actually starting to fail. It turns out I had rhabdomyolysis, which is basically your body’s emergency alarm system telling you something is critically wrong and it needs to protect itself, even if that means shutting down certain functions. I had no idea what was happening at the time!

Emilia Clarke, known for her role in Game of Thrones, revealed a harrowing health battle in a 2019 essay for The New Yorker. While filming the show, she experienced a sudden and severe headache while at the gym. She described collapsing and being violently ill, realizing something was seriously wrong with her brain.
A hospital scan quickly revealed a subarachnoid hemorrhage – a life-threatening stroke caused by bleeding around the brain. She had suffered an aneurysm, a rupture in an artery. Emergency surgery was performed to repair it, but the pain was excruciating. During her recovery, she experienced aphasia, making it difficult to speak and causing her to utter nonsensical phrases.
Though the aphasia eventually passed and she was discharged after a month, a 2013 scan revealed the aneurysm had doubled in size, requiring a second surgery. This procedure initially failed, leading to a massive bleed and a dire prognosis. Doctors had to perform a more invasive surgery, accessing her brain directly through her skull.
Fortunately, Emilia reports she has now made a full recovery and is at 100%.

Cori Broadus, Snoop Dogg’s daughter, recently shared how thankful she is for her family’s support. In January 2024, she suffered a stroke and immediately reached out to her loved ones, sending them a picture and a message. She told TopMob News that everyone quickly came to her aid.
Cori ended up staying in the hospital longer than expected due to other health issues. While she could have gone home after the stroke, she was also dealing with complications from lupus and kidney problems.
Now, Cori is recovering well. She says she’s feeling great and has been working to regain some motor skills, but overall is doing fine.

As a wellness advocate, I’m always inspired by people who take charge of their health, and Shailene Woodley’s story really resonates. She recently shared that her early twenties were incredibly challenging health-wise. She was dealing with a constellation of issues – she actually lost some of her hearing, couldn’t walk for more than a few minutes without needing to rest for hours, and everything she ate caused her stomach pain. It was a really confusing time, with different doctors offering different diagnoses.
Because I believe in a holistic approach, I completely understand why Shailene, with her background in herbalism, wanted to explore all avenues. She worked with both traditional doctors and independent healers, searching for a way to feel comfortable in her own body.
It wasn’t a quick fix; it took a full decade of dedicated work. She explained that the physical discomfort led to a lot of anxiety around food, and eventually, issues with body image and identity. It’s so important to acknowledge how deeply connected our physical and mental wellbeing are.
The good news is, after years of focusing on both her physical and mental health, Shailene is now thriving. She’s healthy and happy, and that’s the most important thing. It’s a powerful reminder that healing is possible, even when the journey is long and complex.
