How to Beat Blue Greymon in Digimon Story: Time Stranger

Finally, Digimon fans are starting to play Digimon Story: Time Stranger. The game begins by taking us through different time periods, but it keeps the story focused on the human world for a while. Soon, though, we-as the Time Stranger, with our companions Aegiomon and Inori-will find ourselves in the Digital World of Illiad. Before that happens, we’ll have to face some challenging Digimon, which are appearing as anomalies. And Blue Greymon is a surprisingly difficult boss early in the game.

I’ll be honest, when I first fought Blue Greymon, I initially thought my struggle to defeat him was a bug in the game. However, I, along with several other players on Reddit, discovered that Blue Greymon has a hidden way to win. This means you might find yourself watching his health bar drain completely, but the battle still won’t finish. I definitely experienced that! Although it seems like a frustrating and game-breaking problem, it is actually possible to win against Blue Greymon in Digimon Story: Time Stranger.

Why the Blue Greymon Fight Doesn’t End Even When the Health Bar is Empty

So, if you’re like me, you might be getting frustrated with the Blue Greymon fight. I mean, you finally get his health all the way down to zero, but he just *keeps* going! It’s super annoying, right? Well, it turns out there’s a second thing you need to do to actually win, and the game doesn’t really tell you what it is. The in-game tutorial doesn’t explain it fully, which is a bit of a pain.

While fighting with you, Minervamon lets you know that Blue Greymon is gathering energy for a powerful attack. The game’s tutorial also teaches you about “charge breaks” during combat. However, it doesn’t fully explain that you must interrupt his power-up sequence to win this boss fight. You won’t be able to defeat him otherwise.

To succeed, you need to reduce that power-up line to zero while battling Blue Greymon with Minervamno. You can only win against Blue Greymon after you’ve interrupted its charging attack. If you don’t, you’ll keep attacking, but the HP bar won’t decrease, and Blue Greymon will continue to fight. It can be frustrating to see no damage registering! Need more help?

From what I’ve seen, stopping Blue Greymon from charging his attack is more effective than simply lowering his HP. If you can fill up and then completely empty the charge bar, you’ll win immediately and be able to continue your Digimon Story. However, you’ll need a Digimon team that’s at a good level to pull this off. Also, if you have a strong Cross Art attack, having it ready will help your Agent interrupt Blue Greymon during the critical moment when you’re trying to break his charge.

Tips for Training Your Digimon for the Blue Greymon Fight in Time Stranger

I couldn’t beat Blue Greymon at first because my Digimon weren’t strong enough. I’ve dealt with the challenge of leveling up Digimon before, but I was hoping the game would naturally show me better training methods. However, the key to making your Digimon more powerful is actually found in the unusual, glowing world of the In-Between Theater. You can enter this dimension at several locations throughout the game, including an alleyway near Shinjuku. Inside, you’ll discover the Digifarm, where you can improve your Digimon’s stats by putting them through training exercises.

One of the good and bad parts of the Digimon games is that simply battling isn’t always enough to get your Digimon to the level you need. While some players enjoy this extra challenge, it can be difficult for newcomers or those who prefer simpler ways to level up. In Balanced mode, going into the fight against Blue Greymon with Digimon that haven’t been trained at the Digifarm can lead to a tough loss. To effectively damage Blue Greymon and stop its power-up, you’ll likely need to do some extra training first.

Before challenging Blue Greymon, it’s a good idea to use the Digifarm to get your Digimon team ready. If you’ve reached a high enough Agent Level, you might even be able to Digivolve your Digimon. Alternatively, you can focus on improving the attack and defense of Digimon that do well against Blue Greymon. For example, training Vaccine-type Digimon will be helpful, since the Virus-type Blue Greymon is vulnerable to their attacks. Also, Water-type moves will be more effective against this boss, allowing you to break its charge bar faster.

You don’t need an extremely powerful team to defeat Blue Greymon, but you’ll need sufficient Digipower to fill its charge meter before it overwhelms you. Exploit its weaknesses to deal damage faster, allowing you to break the charge and progress beyond this early-game boss on your journey through the Digital World.
