Following the massive impact of Danny Boyle’s *28 Days Later*, which redefined zombie films over two decades ago, the recent release *28 Years Later* has also proven to be a hit.
Okay, so after a bit of a stumble with *28 Weeks Later*, this new installment, *28 Years Later*, really breathes life back into the series. It doesn’t just pick up where things left off, it expands the world in interesting ways and, crucially, introduces us to a compelling new set of characters. I’m giving it three stars – you can read my full thoughts in my complete review, linked here.
Viewers who enjoy the series were happy to see Danny Boyle directing again with writer Alex Garland, and they thought the actors did a great job. However, the film’s ending, which featured a lot of action, received mixed reactions.
Now that the movie had a great run in theaters earlier this year, you can finally watch it at home on demand – whether you missed it the first time or want to see it again!
28 Years Later kicks off a new series of connected movies, with more planned for 2026 (you can see our thoughts on the trailer for the second film, The Bone Temple, here). Here’s how to watch the first movie now.

28 Years Later plot – What is it about?
Twenty-eight years after the events of “28 Weeks Later,” the UK remains under quarantine, while the rest of Europe has successfully eliminated the deadly Rage virus.
28 Years Later primarily focuses on the families of Isla and Jamie as they navigate life after a devastating apocalypse. The film builds upon the existing story of the Rage virus, introducing new elements like powerful creatures called “Alphas” and a deeper look at how society has rebuilt itself.
This also establishes the feel for the next two films, with Danny Boyle expected to direct the last one.
