Fans can soon watch a filmed performance of ‘Fawlty Towers: The Play’ starting Friday, September 19th, as part of the 50th anniversary of the beloved sitcom. If you’re curious about where to see it, here’s what you need to know.
This stage show, which first appeared in London’s West End in May 2024, is based on classic episodes of *Fawlty Towers* – specifically ‘The Hotel Inspectors,’ ‘Communication Problems,’ and ‘The Germans.’ It will begin touring the UK later this month.
This recording of the play stars the original actors: Adam Jackson-Smith as Basil, Anna-Jane Casey as Sybil, Hemi Yeroham as Manuel, and Victoria Fox as Polly.
It was recently discovered that this live play recording includes a personal introduction from John Cleese.
John Cleese has announced he’s creating a new stage show based on Fawlty Towers, featuring three additional episodes adapted for the theatre.
Here’s how and where you can watch “Fawlty Towers: The Play” on television.
How to watch Fawlty Towers: The Play on TV

Fawlty Towers: The Play will air on U&GOLD at 9pm on Friday 19th September.
Subscribers can also watch U&Gold programmes on Sky and NOW at no extra cost.
U&Gold acquired the rights to the West End production of Fawlty Towers in July. John Cleese shared that he was delighted with the positive reception to the play and pleased U&Gold would be making it available for home viewing in time for the show’s 50th anniversary.
As a comedy fan, I’m really excited about this! Gerald Casey, who oversees comedy programming at UKTV, told me they’re incredibly proud to be the first to show this new stage adaptation of ‘Fawlty Towers’ on TV. He rightly points out it’s a true classic of British comedy, and it’s fantastic they’re celebrating its 50th anniversary with this special screening.
“With the legendary John Cleese at the helm, U&Gold viewers are really in for something special.”
