Hugh Jackman’s New Robin Hood Movie Will Depict The Legendary Outlaw In Its Rarest Rating Yet

I’m so excited about the new movie, The Death of Robin Hood, starring Hugh Jackman! It’s going to be a really unique take on the classic story. We’ve seen so many versions of Robin Hood, but this one is different – it’s based on a much older, darker ballad from the 1600s called Robin Hood’s Death, so it promises to be a real thriller.

The upcoming film, The Death of Robin Hood, has officially received an R rating due to its strong and graphic violence. This makes it unusual, as previous Robin Hood movies starring Russell Crowe, Kevin Costner, and Taron Egerton were all rated PG-13.

While some other Robin Hood films like The Siege of Robin Hood and Robin Hood: Ghosts of Sherwood also received R-ratings, none can match the impressive cast of the new thriller from A24. In contrast, Disney’s classic animated movie from 1973 is very family-friendly and earned a G-rating.

Most stories celebrate Robin Hood as a heroic and righteous outlaw. However, the new film from A24, written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, presents a Robin Hood haunted by his past actions. The movie shows him dealing with the consequences of his violence, and features a nurse caring for him after a fight.

Hugh Jackman stars in The Death of Robin Hood alongside Jodie Comer, Bill Skarsgård, Murray Bartlett, and Noah Jupe. Bill Skarsgård will play Little John, a key friend to the main character.

The most recent big-screen portrayal of the famous outlaw came in 2018 with a film featuring Taron Egerton. However, despite having well-known actors like Jamie Foxx and Eve Hewson, the movie wasn’t successful with critics or audiences, earning only $86 million worldwide on a $100 million production cost.

Most of the Robin Hood movies haven’t impressed critics. The 2018 version received the lowest rating at just 14%, while versions starring Crowe, Costner, and Cary Elwes earned 43%, 51%, and 42% respectively. The standout is Errol Flynn’s The Adventures of Robin Hood, which achieved a perfect 100% rating.

The latest version of the story was featured in the MGM+ TV show with Sean Bean and Jack Patten, and it was much better received by critics, currently holding a 77% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, as of now, the studio hasn’t announced whether the show will return for a second season.

The Death of Robin Hood does not have a release date yet, but it’s scheduled for sometime in 2026.
