A24 has set a release date for its new film, The Death of Robin Hood. The movie, directed by Michael Sarnoski (known for Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One), reimagines the classic tale with Hugh Jackman as an aging, hardened Robin Hood. The story draws inspiration from the 17th-century ballad, Robin Hood’s Death. Joining Jackman is Bill Skarsgård as Little John, and the cast also includes Jodie Comer, Noah Jupe, Murray Barlett, and Faith Delaney.
A24 has announced that The Death of Robin Hood will be released in theaters on June 19, 2026. It will be released alongside Toy Story 5, and that same weekend will also see the opening of Hayley Kiyoko’s coming-of-age romantic comedy, Girls Like Girls, from Focus Features.
‘The Death of Robin Hood’ Enters a Competitive Summer Movie Season

A24
Releasing The Death of Robin Hood the same weekend as Toy Story 5 is a risky but potentially smart decision for A24. Both films are debuting over Father’s Day, and The Death of Robin Hood can clearly market itself as a choice for older dads. A24 had success last year using a similar strategy, releasing the mature film Materialist as an alternative to the family movie How to Train Your Dragon.
A new Robin Hood movie from A24 is offering a fresh take on the classic story. Recent attempts, like the 2018 film starring Taron Egerton, haven’t fared well with critics or at the box office. The last genuinely successful Robin Hood movie was the comedy Men in Tights in 1993, and before that, it was Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves in 1991. While some darker, more complex versions, like the 2010 Russell Crowe film, didn’t quite connect with audiences, this new film – which is taking a similar approach to the Logan movie – might be exactly what people are looking for.

June 2026 is looking like a packed month for moviegoers. The week before The Death of Robin Hood arrives in theaters, Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day and Scary Movie 5 from Paramount will be released. The following week brings Supergirl and a new Jackass movie, which was recently added to the summer lineup. With Masters of the Universe kicking things off, plus Toy Story 5 and The Death of Robin Hood, audiences will have a lot of options to choose from in June 2026.
