Hunger Games prequel Sunrise on the Reaping unleashes first-look trailer focused on young Haymitch

Okay, folks, Lionsgate just dropped the first teaser for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, and it’s got me excited! With a year still to go before it hits theaters, this first look is seriously thrilling – definitely building the hype for the next chapter in the series.

The upcoming movie, a prequel focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy (played by Joseph Zada) before the events of The Hunger Games, has assembled a fantastic cast. The recently released trailer offers a first glimpse of stars like Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning, and Jesse Plemons as they join the world of Panem.

The new trailer offers a detailed look at Glenn Close’s transformation into Drusilla Sickle, the escort for the tributes from District 12 during the 50th Hunger Games. It then takes viewers inside the arena for the Second Quarter Quell.

Viewers quickly get their first look at Zada playing Haymitch, a fan-favorite character from The Hunger Games.

With the clock ticking down, we see glimpses of other contestants, like McKenna Grace playing Maysilee Donner and Ben Wang as Wyatt Callow.

The trailer also offers fans a better view of some key characters, including President Snow (Fiennes), Effie Trinket (Fanning), and Plutarch Heavensbee (Plemons).

A voice predicts the upcoming games will be unlike any before, just as Haymitch is shocked by a sudden explosion within the arena.

Francis Lawrence is directing the new movie, which is based on the novel by Suzanne Collins.

I’m hearing that Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson from Color Force are taking the lead on production, which is fantastic news. Cameron MacConomy will be on board as an executive producer, helping to guide the project from a higher level. Sounds like a solid team is coming together!

The film series has earned more than $3.3 billion worldwide, and the books are equally successful.

Sunrise on the Reaping quickly became a bestseller, selling 1.5 million copies within its first week of release across the US, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. In the US alone, 1.2 million copies were sold, which is double the first-week sales of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and triple the first-week sales of Mockingjay.
