Everyone’s on edge, snapping at each other, and it takes a while to figure out it’s all thanks to a supe named Quinn messing with their heads.
Arguments between the characters create uncomfortable feelings afterward. While MM and Butcher usually bounce back quickly from conflict, one couple has to deal with the consequences of what happened in the recent episode, “King of Hell.” This week’s episode of The Boys Season 5, Episode 3, shows Frenchie and Kimiko realizing their relationship isn’t going to work out.
The Boys Season 5 Just Robbed Us of a Happy Ending for Frenchie & Kimiko
Kimiko’s scenes in Season 5 of The Boys are a standout, but when manipulated by Quinn, she says some truly hurtful things to Frenchie. While she tries to make amends in Episode 4, the resulting conversation is difficult, though necessary after their earlier talk at the gas station. The episode, “Everyone One of You Sons of Bitches,” makes it clear that Kimiko and Frenchie have different visions for their futures, especially if they make it through the fight against Homelander. Kimiko dreams of a stable life with a family, while Frenchie values his freedom and doesn’t want those commitments. This fundamental difference seems to be driving them apart, and this week’s episode suggests their relationship is likely over.
Kimiko apologizes to Frenchie, and he responds by offering to be whatever she wants. He’s trying to find a way for them to both get what they need in the future, but Kimiko rejects the idea. She doesn’t want to try and change him, feeling he’s happiest when things are unpredictable. However, she also admits their current lifestyle isn’t sustainable. When Frenchie asks what this means for their relationship, they’re left in an awkward silence, suggesting their seven-year connection might not make it through the season, and any hope for a happy ending is fading.
The Prime Video Show Has Been Setting Frenchie & Kimiko’s Romance Up for Years
From the start of The Boys, Frenchie and Kimiko clearly develop feelings for each other, and their connection quickly becomes romantic. They finally share a kiss at the end of Season 4, a moment that felt earned after seasons of build-up – even though Homelander’s forces immediately separate them. When they reunite in Season 5, it’s clear their feelings haven’t faded, and might even be stronger. However, the story takes an unexpected turn, and it’s uncertain if anyone will get a truly happy ending. Despite the challenges, Frenchie and Kimiko are among those who deserve a peaceful resolution, even if it means they won’t find it together.
The Boys Season 5 Can Still Make Frenchie’s & Kimiko’s Endings Worse
While the current situation with Frenchie and Kimiko is sad, things could still get much worse in the rest of The Boys Season 5. The first few episodes haven’t had many significant deaths – A-Train’s was the biggest – but a lot of bloodshed seems likely before the season ends. It will be very difficult to defeat Homelander, and even harder to stop Butcher from killing all the remaining supes.
Episode 4 of The Boys Season 5 suggests the team might be fractured when they finally confront Vought and The Seven. Frenchie and Kimiko could face Homelander’s anger, or even clash with Butcher and MM. Regardless, a happy outcome for either of them seems unlikely – simply surviving might be the best they can hope for, considering the show’s tendency to kill off characters before they find peace.
